I mainly have maple fret boards because I like the way they look....simple as that.

I learned that almost the hard way with my Fender strap locks. I was able to catch my bass in time thankfully. I now check them every time I play to ensure they are still tight.

I've mainly played in bands without a rhythm guitar. It seriously allows me to be more creative on the bass. Without a rhythm guitar you are in a position do more fills and runs, as well as increased experimentation with effects or even a bass synth like the Roland GR-55. Give it a shot.

My band uses the EV LiveX series as well (ELX115p mains and ELX118p subs). I am extremely pleased with them.

I just received one of these (MIM). I am a J-Bass guy, but wanted a P-Bass to go into my collection and this is the one I chose. The neck is not as thick as most P-Bass's I've seen throught the years. It is most certainly not a J-Bass neck, but it is the most comfortable neck I've ever played...

It's just too bad that we have to have guitar players most of the time. I did play in one band that had no guitars - keys and saxes did all the melody parts. Easiset band I ever played in when it came to stuff like you're talking about.

True, but Michael Anthony does some tasty fills in his playing. He's really good at that. I've stolen many of them myself. ;)
