Changing necks on a MIM Fender Jazz Bass

I own five Jazz basses: USA Deluxe Jazz V, USA Deluxe Jazz 4string, MIJ Geddy Lee Jazz, MIJ Aerodyne Jazz and a MIM Standard Jazz V. I want to do some updates to the MIM Standard Jazz V: N3 pups, high mass bridge and new neck. I have the opportunity to buy an American Deluxe Jazz V neck for this...

Received my new Fender American Jazz V Deluxe last night!

None at all. I was concerned about that as I had read that it was there, but either I got a really good one or Fender fixed it for the 2013 models.

Received my new Fender American Jazz V Deluxe last night!

I got a 20% coupon from Musicians Friend last week and was surprised to see that it applied to Fender. Usually their "percent off" specials don't. So I bought a brand new wine red American Jazz V Deluxe for $1439. It is everything they say it is. Completely blows my MIM 60th Anniversary Jazz...

Gibson Ripper basses - what are they like?

That's pretty much where I was going to go with this as well. Listening to KISS Alive! or earlier albums will give a good sense of what the tone is like. That being said, he tended to use both a Ripper and a Grabber, with the Grabber being used as his primary stage bass. It might be hard to...

    Worst band you've ever seen?

Oh, I was thinking ou were asking about national acts as I was going to say that I saw Buck Cherry last year. They were TERRIBLE. As far a local bands, shoot to many to many over the years to count. I think I was in one of them at one time. :D

    Strap Lock system

I learned that almost the hard way with my Fender strap locks. I was able to catch my bass in time thankfully. I now check them every time I play to ensure they are still tight.

Any Reason NOT to buy a 5 stringer?

I have both five string and four string basses. I only play my five string when I absolutlely have to. Nothing against five string basses, but I have been playing four string basses for a really long time and prefer them. In fact, just this week I was working out songs I normally play on the...

Rhythm guitar player quits....is the band done?

I've mainly played in bands without a rhythm guitar. It seriously allows me to be more creative on the bass. Without a rhythm guitar you are in a position do more fills and runs, as well as increased experimentation with effects or even a bass synth like the Roland GR-55. Give it a shot.

Who's using a subwoofer / satellite type PA system?

My band uses the EV LiveX series as well (ELX115p mains and ELX118p subs). I am extremely pleased with them.

How to build a successful cover band??

I am having the same fight with my band from time to time, especially with our singer. He keeps suggesting songs he likes rather than those which will work in a contemporary cover band situation. This isn't the 70s or 80s where there were pure rock clubs and you could play anything you wanted...

Songs that NEVER fail to get the chicks shakin' da booty on da dance floor

My band played Man In the Box last night. It was the first time we played it live and the guys chose to end the night with it. I love the song but thought ending the night with something that heavy would bomb. It was received very, very well. I was honestly surprised.

Curious but turned off by wanted ad.

Acoustic Southern Rock? So, .38 Special, Blackfoot, Lynryd Skynryd and Molly Hatchet unplugged or what? Is he going to stand there strumming a Martin copy doing bad impressions of Danny Joe Brown while the rest of the band is playing electric?

From my drummer last night: "I guess I should really listen to those Set 2 songs and start working on them. Could you send me the set list again?" Keep in mind that he's only had the set list for the past five weeks. :rollno: I'm almost there with my band as well. I had to teach the...

    Fender Jazz?!

Welcome to the Jazz Bass. Glad you like it! Of the ten basses I own, the three Jazz Basses are my favorites hands down. My two four string Jazz's are MIJ (black Geddy Lee and Aerodyne) and my five string is blue 60th Anniversary MIM. I love them. The only one I did any kind of modifications...

Fender 70s P bass RI - thick neck or not?

I just received one of these (MIM). I am a J-Bass guy, but wanted a P-Bass to go into my collection and this is the one I chose. The neck is not as thick as most P-Bass's I've seen throught the years. It is most certainly not a J-Bass neck, but it is the most comfortable neck I've ever played...

^^This. I've also found that the older I get the more I consider weight. For decades my beloved 1978 aluminum neck Kramer 650-B was my primary bass (sole owner BTW). Though I've never actually weighed it, I've seen it said that it weighs anywhere from a low of 15 lbs to a high of 20 lbs. It...

    Fender '70s Precision Bass

I just ordered an Olympic White. It should be here this week. I've always been a J-Bass player when it comes to Fender, but when I saw that 70's P-Bass I had to have it. It's my first P-Bass and I can't wait. BTW JEDI BASS, the black hardware on yours looks sick! I love it. I will try very...

Stupid things your bandmates have said.

It's just too bad that we have to have guitar players most of the time. I did play in one band that had no guitars - keys and saxes did all the melody parts. Easiset band I ever played in when it came to stuff like you're talking about.

So will this shut up the Wolfgang Van Halen haters?

True, but Michael Anthony does some tasty fills in his playing. He's really good at that. I've stolen many of them myself. ;)
