    oh man come on

No its a 4 string but the band I'm with is tuned to bead, and this Thunderbird frets out like crazy in this tuning. But my 2 dean flying v basses seem to adapt quite well.

    oh man come on

So I got a sweet Thunderbird at a pawn shop. Ordered black beauties, they are just not working out. To thin. I tune to bead. What's a good heavy string that can take this tuning? My t bird sits til I can find a string that fits it right. All my dean V basses accept this tuning w no prob but...

Down in the post first, then wind, its pretty simple ya don't do it this way ya go outta tune every 18 seconds lol.

    Radio anymore?

I boycotted radio over 15 years ago, I even take the antenna off my car. 1st off I hate talk radio, total drama, 2nd I'm a metal head and no station in my area plays maiden, slayer, or behemoth. Nickelback and Creed are not allowed in my vehicle. So there it is. My cds n mp3 player rock on!

Good metal bands that don't drink blood or worship the devil?

Not to slam on religion, but heavy metal was meant to be a dark F you to parents and the mainstream. So Christian "metal" has never made sense to me. But then again Sabbath did have some "god" positive songs so its really not worth arguing. I dig As I Lie Dying and they are xtians so I don't...

Good metal bands that don't drink blood or worship the devil?

Smash that Jazz bass to pieces!

Ya got me there:D the iceman is pretty cool. I guess I kinda go more by the total package; looks and sound. I've never cared for the look of most ibanez. I'm trying to recall what Steve Harris played in the 80's....Kramer?:help: I am shamed I dont remember. 99% of the time he plays Fender, but a...

    Famous musicians you've ALMOST met

Missed Dio by about 3 minutes at house of blues gift shop in Chicago. But met and talked to Lemmy so all is good. Saw James Hetfield in LA driving up the 101 in a fancy black car of some kind. He was on the phone -illegal in California! No biggie, I'm a Slayer fan:bassist:

Good metal bands that don't drink blood or worship the devil?

Carnifex, Whitechapel, Lazarus AD, Toxic Holocaust, Black Dahlia Murder. And if you wanna go back to see where things really changed listen to some old Iron Maiden or Slayer. Go back further Black Sabbath and Pentagram. Don't just slap it in and quick listen it, really listen to the music, read...

    Rethinking Black Metal.

Try playing some of those guitar parts before laughing it off. Sure some of the bands are inaudible. Behemoth and Gorgoroth are my favorites, though they are closer to mainstream.

Smash that Jazz bass to pieces!

Actually he was a maybe 110 pound Japanese kid with the fury of a thousand starving cobras. I can understand his frustration, his bandmates were wasted n messing up all their parts. As angry as he was I think he was the only sober one, maybe he just hit his breaking point with the band....to bad...

Smash that Jazz bass to pieces!

Gotta agree to disagree on a Ibanez being best for metal. I've been playing metal for almost 20 years and I find my Thunderbird and my Dean V's better all around. I had a Ibanez soundgear (high end can't remember exact specs) and it didn't give me the punch and feel my current line up does. But...

Smash that Jazz bass to pieces!

A bass player in a local punk band years ago got into a fight with the guitarist and swung his bass at him. Guitarist backed up, bass hit the PA stack and busted into a million pieces. Hahaha! Was a Fender American made. All parties were obviously wasted. Then the dude was out back later loading...

worst bandmate you've ever worked with?

Auditioned a guitarist once who had a 7 string ibanez and only knew Korn songs. That sucked.
  15. R

    worst bass line ever

It don't have to be technical to be good, too many people forget simplicity. Some players tend to over-do it just to show off. Play what fits the song.

ESP Tom Araya Signature Series Bass

Slayer has worked hard to get where they are, unlike Metallicorp and other bands of that era they have always just been themselves, and been true to their fans. 30 years and still going strong. Why would you think Araya would not deserve a custom bass? Many other bassist in jazz and all that...

    4 or 5 String? Ibanez SR300 or SR305

With that being said why not just get a 6 string Jazz bass or switch to guitar? Sounds like your more of a guitar player and bass is a secondary toy.:hmm:

    Bassists in the midwest?

Right now South Bend Indiana, hope to move back to CA by fall, this place sucks! Haha! 2 customized Dean Flying V's , a Thunderbird, GK115, GK 410, GK backline 600. Pretty weak setup but works for now. Love my basses though ;)

Why are the dots on the front of the fretboard?

Because no matter how good you THINK you are, you still need the dots. Just as a book needs page numbers. A dotless bass to me is like saying "hey look at me world, I don't need dots" or look mommy, no hands..crash! Mine are on top and front, if I'm laying around playing I use the fronts. But...

Bands who use C standard tuning

.....and ill add I'm a high on fire fan, but Sleep bores me to death. I respect them n my bro (drummer).worships them but to me very boring. Pike in HOF is bad ass though.

Bands who use C standard tuning

We play in C, took me some Getting used too,had to make some adjustments,.but now I love it. Check out the band Sleep. It's Matt Pike(high on fire) old stoner band they tune in C. I was weary n wanted nothing to do with this tuning, but now grown to love it.

Flea is not really that great is he??

I don't care much for Victor Wooten. If anyone is over rated its him, not Flea. To me Wooten is boring, far from the god many of you worship him as.

These Black Beuties are nice but.....

Yeah after a couple hours of playing that tacky feel goes away and they become really smooth. Just use extra caution when you first put em on, my E came unraveled as I was tuning it. Coulda been me, coulda been a mfg defect, not sure.

Anyone know where Cliff Burtons basses are?

Just out of curiousity does anyone know where his basses are? Are they in a museum? His parents have them? He mainly played the Aria, but probably had lots of others. If anyone has info or a link I'd appreciate It. Thanks.

    the drunk guy shows up

So I'm bass player, my bro is the drummer/visionary of our new band Phantom Green. We play stoner doom metal. Every guitarist that shows up pulls out the booze during try outs. We get some good guys but I think the wAsted new guy is questionable. Anyone else experience this? And the "hey man I'm...

Frustration hits! I was tuning my E string when it came unraveled. Now the E is useless :-( anyone know where I can buy just the E? Or am I f***ed? If i can't buy just the E I'm out $33.00. And will just go back go regular DR's. I Googled single black beauties E for bass, nothing. Quite pissed...

I'm gonna hold off on the truss adjustment because I'm loving this super low action. Through the amp it sounds perfect, no buzz at all.

    Okay, Who LOOKS The Coolest?

So its Claypool who owns the worlds most expensive bass at $100,000+. I was reading an article online showing this insane 6 string but they would not release WHO is was made for. Maybe this is old news but I just put it together, yeah I'm a bit behind lol. Thanks for the pic:hyper: edit-...

These Black Beuties are nice but.....

Little Update: I've gotten them broken in on my Thunderbird, about 15 hours or so on em. They are starting to really feel good now. I don't change em until my sustain starts to drop off. Or if one of the strings goes flat.

Yes, another thread about Roger Waters' strings!

I'm a huge Waters fan, love his solo double live album. But honestly, you guys are too technical for me lol. I can't tell a difference and dont care to. Man is a great songwriter and musician, that's all i need to know. Praise " The Final Cut"

    little vent about death

Sorry, but I've lost both my parents and either of them ever lived past 60. My 2 brothers n I are young still. You dont know how long the grieving process is going to take.
