No its a 4 string but the band I'm with is tuned to bead, and this Thunderbird frets out like crazy in this tuning. But my 2 dean flying v basses seem to adapt quite well.

So I got a sweet Thunderbird at a pawn shop. Ordered black beauties, they are just not working out. To thin. I tune to bead. What's a good heavy string that can take this tuning? My t bird sits til I can find a string that fits it right. All my dean V basses accept this tuning w no prob but...

Try playing some of those guitar parts before laughing it off. Sure some of the bands are inaudible. Behemoth and Gorgoroth are my favorites, though they are closer to mainstream.

Gotta agree to disagree on a Ibanez being best for metal. I've been playing metal for almost 20 years and I find my Thunderbird and my Dean V's better all around. I had a Ibanez soundgear (high end can't remember exact specs) and it didn't give me the punch and feel my current line up does. But...

Auditioned a guitarist once who had a 7 string ibanez and only knew Korn songs. That sucked.

It don't have to be technical to be good, too many people forget simplicity. Some players tend to over-do it just to show off. Play what fits the song.

Slayer has worked hard to get where they are, unlike Metallicorp and other bands of that era they have always just been themselves, and been true to their fans. 30 years and still going strong. Why would you think Araya would not deserve a custom bass? Many other bassist in jazz and all that...

With that being said why not just get a 6 string Jazz bass or switch to guitar? Sounds like your more of a guitar player and bass is a secondary toy.:hmm:

Right now South Bend Indiana, hope to move back to CA by fall, this place sucks! Haha! 2 customized Dean Flying V's , a Thunderbird, GK115, GK 410, GK backline 600. Pretty weak setup but works for now. Love my basses though ;)

Because no matter how good you THINK you are, you still need the dots. Just as a book needs page numbers. A dotless bass to me is like saying "hey look at me world, I don't need dots" or look mommy, no hands..crash! Mine are on top and front, if I'm laying around playing I use the fronts. But...

We play in C, took me some Getting used too,had to make some adjustments,.but now I love it. Check out the band Sleep. It's Matt Pike(high on fire) old stoner band they tune in C. I was weary n wanted nothing to do with this tuning, but now grown to love it.

I don't care much for Victor Wooten. If anyone is over rated its him, not Flea. To me Wooten is boring, far from the god many of you worship him as.

Yeah after a couple hours of playing that tacky feel goes away and they become really smooth. Just use extra caution when you first put em on, my E came unraveled as I was tuning it. Coulda been me, coulda been a mfg defect, not sure.

I love em all, but the Orange and the Cream colored ones are most awesome! I'm no pro on stuff, I'm just going by looks lol.

I'm gonna hold off on the truss adjustment because I'm loving this super low action. Through the amp it sounds perfect, no buzz at all.

Little Update: I've gotten them broken in on my Thunderbird, about 15 hours or so on em. They are starting to really feel good now. I was skeptical the first few hours, but now I love these beauties! I think you just gotta be patient and break em in cuz I'm playing faster because my action is...

I don't change em until my sustain starts to drop off. Or if one of the strings goes flat.

I'm a huge Waters fan, love his solo double live album. But honestly, you guys are too technical for me lol. I can't tell a difference and dont care to. Man is a great songwriter and musician, that's all i need to know. Praise " The Final Cut":cool:
