Has anyone here ever used flats on an active humbucker bass?

My 4401 Lakland and Ibanez SR530 both with Bartolini mk1's have TI flats. They sound awesome.

    Considering a Lakland...

I have a Skyline 4401 and this is my second. I sold the first and regretted it. I have a 72 pbass that is retired. I would love to get a Duck Dunn or Bob Glaub pbass. Hope eventually to make that happen. But as everyone states the Skylines play so well and the fit and finish are outstanding.

Doesn't Geddy Lee use these. I thought I read he does.

    Your Signature String

I finally came into the TI flats world. I have to say they are great strings. I don't find them floppy at all. I like a little looseness for chords and bends. I have them on my Lakland 4401 and Ibanez SR530. Great balance, feel and tone.

    TI Flats...Meh...

I have them on my Lakland Skyline 4401 and Ibanez SR530 both with Barts MK1 pu's. I play the Ibanez at church thru an old Peavey tx 2x10 4 ohm cab with an SWR 350 (red face) head. I had to turn the bottom down it was so full. But these both are used sets I picked up here. I wouldn't give up...

(Poll) Flatwounders, how often do you play flats?

Thanks to the classified ads here, I now have traded in my Chromes for TI flats on both my main basses. They just feel and sound so good. Still have med. scale Chromes on my Hofner copy. I love flats.

    String Confusion...I am an idiot

I played Boomers many moons ago and they used to have red silk at head stock and plain ball ends. You're welcome good luck.
  17. hotbass57*123

Are there any modern-day bands where the bassist uses flatwound strings?

Bill Kenney-Incubus, Paul McCartney. I agree with Pbass2 there are alot of players using flats in studio and live.

here are the Roto swing bass 66. They have a similar look at the bridge red silk.

True story guitar palyer I played with used to always set his drink on his marshall vintage head. I warned him over and over. One night he spins around hits the beer with his head stock...................smoke, sparks and bye bye marshall.

Yes, just like you can't use a speaker cord as a guitar cord. Go to music shop and get a 3ft. speaker cord. I bought a Monster speaker cable and another at Sam Ash. Why two? One as a back up.
  23. Thomastic-Infeld Jazz Flats

Review by hotbass57*123 on the item 'Thomastic-Infeld Jazz Flats'

I bought two sets used. I paid avg. $40/set. They were broken in, but not abused. One set went on a Lakland 4401 and the other Ibanez SR530 both with Bartolini MK1 pick ups. I did not find these floppy at all, I did have to adjust my truss rod no big deal. These are the most balanced strings...

My knowledge about amplifiers is pretty non-existent :dead: Not at all, the 500 head is designed to produce maximum power at 4 ohms, and both those cabinets are 8 ohm cabinets.....using both of them will be 4...

I use the 40 at church and use the line out to the pa. I mainly just use the 40 as a monitor plenty loud. I have the 500 combo that would be overkill. I agree with Linnin keep the 40 and get the 200 if you feel you need more. My piano player would have a cow if I brought something bigger and louder.

I would email pic to Sadowsky customer service. That very well could be the cause of the string not sounding right.

    Flatwounds Give Me Blisters

Fast Fret before you play. Works for me TI's on my Lakland and Chromes on my other two basses. I lightly sand my calluses twice a week with an emory board. Keeps them smooth and dead skin off. Read about double bass guys swearing by it. Works!

I agree exactly what you said. I didn't find them floppy at all. I have a tendency to dig in, but like you said they play so easy and sound so good. and you don't have to.
