I'm really into good passive pick ups with the option to switch on active to give it extra grunt and clarity above the 12th fret. My fingers prefer the active set up since I don't dig in as hard to get the grunt :D

Of course, intial thoughts are based of statistics. Doesn't mean their either good or bad, you only assume.

I own a Ibanez sr755 and it definitely growls with the nordstrand split and single coil pick ups. Ernie ball Round wounds with a pick and a GK amp and cab boosted 3/4 high mids. It's a subtle growl that can be pushed with some tweaking and putting the amp on boost setting.

That sounds like the way to go! I'm going to change the pots as well because they're obviously cheap. The tone pot has a undefined 4/10 flat setting towards the end of the tone off. Thanks for your help :)
