The official "Show your basses" thread part 19!

In deed, they're so stiff and dense, so there's almost no resonance on body & neck w.s. there's a maximum energy from the strings onto the pups and once tuned, it stays in for years, except one change the strings monthly ... and yes, the XL5W is/was in perfect manner (for she's gone), the L2-5...

    Opinion on string spacing?

It was taking a few minutes to get used to the narrow spacing of the first Steinberger L-5 ... so what?

    Weight matters over playability

Steinbergers: L2/5: 3.6 kg, XL5W 3,8 kg. One will never get that punch on -4 kg

Heavy Sterling Ray34 should I sell?

I own a '93 Warwick Streamer 5 stringer, on that stands back on a Steinberger L-5. The Steini has 3.6 kg, the Warwick has 3.9 kg and sounds like hell, best 5er that i ever had. I dislike heavy gear, 4kg is the max I would buy; that hinders me to get a MM Sting Ray, also sounding like hell, but...

The Ultimate Trace Elliot Info Thread (9/18)

I had a TE 300W + 2 4X10" speaker, but with my very classy 1993 Warwick/5 i never got a desired tone ... Somewhat of a cold and sterile tone was all I've got, so I traded it for an Ampeg 100W + a 4X10' cab and got a marvelous tone then. '

    Travel/couch/light(er) bass?

A clear case for a Steinberger L or XL ... no Spirit XT, you would only be disappointed.

    What are your lightest/heaviest basses?...

Steinberger L 2-5 = 3,4 kg of broad punch  (The upper XL5W is gone) Fender P 60th Anniversary =4,8kg of a bad buy :rollno:

Who SHOULD decide how your bass sounds live?

I know how my bass sounds because i want it to sound as a hot knife in butter... i dislike bassist going for a dull muffed tone, i give it a tight attack on full low mids blow for clear audibility ; best to go for is a P or the L Steinberger to me.
  19. BergerHead

    What are your lightest/heaviest basses?...

3,6kg easy traveling: 1/2 ton of pita: (my badest P ever)
  20. BergerHead

For Those That Play A P-Bass...Why Do You Like It So Much?

The P have the best push on lower mid frequencies, the essential part of a well balanced overall tone; except for the Steinberger's L i never had that on other basses: tone perfection.

24 frets basses... what’s the deal?

When i want comfort i go to my sofa ... and even there i've never faced any lacking on the bass, too bad for you then.
  23. BergerHead

24 frets basses... what’s the deal?

Upper horn, cutaway, neck-dive ... ? i think Ned Steinberger solved that very well, even with 24 frets.
  24. BergerHead

24 frets basses... what’s the deal?

Really? i d'go for a double neck then: one with 23, the other with 24 frets, so everybody is happy then. Here's a lotta folk chasing problems more than hold on solutions ... remember Frank Z.'s statement! :rollno:

Creatives of TB. I have an old, unrepairable, broken Jazz Bass neck...what would you do with it?

A good luthier could bend/twist it back over a steam treatment, i had a Strat with the same issue that went back a superb guitar then. Otherwise i would favor the door-handle, what a statement entering in a music room ... :smug:

This time will be the one

Steinberger L only, for it's the same pups config as a P (split-coil) and i get all desired sounds twice as punchy ... and half the haul fuss.
  27. BergerHead

    Bass Recommendations please!!

Not really, the P split-coil (a humbucker in fact) would have to be wired in series to connect as parallel to the J then; to me the P/J never made sense therefore.

    Black Basses!

Great pic to explain my wife why one needs more than one bass, although i consider it a little exaggerated to own 6 nearly similar axes ... but probably i'm only bitta jealous of. Btw, the cat fits very well on them ... :D

Would you spend your money on this?

NO! For it's ugly and one can throw a 7'000$ outta window as well.
  36. BergerHead

Are cheap bass expectations too high?

A golden rule to me: grab for cheapness got its price buying cheap is buying twice ... Of course beginners better pick cheaper instruments (specially during a spleen phase), but when coming in age, one choses quality levels that cheapos in general do not range in, and as in most of the cases...
