2 Notes Opus

For anyone who’s using a line out to an amp and the DI how do you set your levels?

I’ve been having a bit of a rough time at practice where everything sounds a bit thin. Sounds great at home with a DI into my interface. Anyway tonight I was having a play around and despite my signal to the line out being placed before the blocks on the OPUS, when I just bypassed it physically and went straight from my preamp to my amp the volume jumped massively. Instantly everything sounded excellent.

Is there a setting I’ve missed? Why would the line out signal be so weak?

It’s a shame there isn’t an output level meter for the DI and line out.
I don't think that is enough information to know what your solution is.

It would help to know the whole signal chain and how you are wanting to use it.

Paging @Ross Davies ...

Thanks for reaching out. Sorry to hear this. I would need a little more information here if you dont mind to assist you in setting this up:
  • What amp are you using and what input are you connecting to?
  • What kind of cable are you using to go from the OPUS 1/4-inch out to the input on your amp?
Thanks so much and I look forward to hearing from you soon!

The amp is a Handbox WB100, all valve head. I tried straight into the input and the return.

I believe it’s one of the Roland instrument cables I was using. I’m routing from the 1/4 out into a Rockboard mod 1 patch at via an EBS cable. I did the same with my EAE Bass Driver preamp though so I doubt there’s anything there which would impact it.

I’ll try and get a view of the routing on the OPUS when I get home but essentially I tried it with the Noise Gate and Power Amp sim before the line out and again with the line out first in the chain.

I’ll do some testing when I’m back with the XLR and 1/4 into 2 channels of my interface. At least that will let me get a clearer idea of the levels I’m getting.
Sounds good - let me know how you get on and once we have the info to hand, I can get the dev / tech team on this to help get to the bottom of it! :)

I'v been playing around with the OPUS and have been pretty impressed with the sound and the functionality and usability. I was even trying out some of the DynIR cabs in the store and have some in my shopping cart. Until today everything had been including using Torpedo Remote from my iPad and my computer (but not at the same time) and switching presets via MIDI. Then this happened:

I closed Torpedo Remote on my computer. Then sometime later I did a preset switch via MIDI and the unit didn't respond. Then I saw "watchdog error" on the OPUS display and instructions to hit enter to reboot. I tried to use the encoder knob to "hit enter" but the unit was frozen and would not come back until I powered it down and back up. I'm on the latest firmware (5.45 at the of writing this). The only unusual thing was that I had been sampling out some of the DynIRs in the store but still... This kind of thing is my greatest concern about using a complex digital device like this for any important music-making and I say that as a software developer with some appreciation for what is going on inside the unit.

@Ross Davies any thoughts on this?

Update: I submitted a ticket for this through the Two Notes Helpdesk.

Hi @Adrian Cho, Thanks for getting in touch. I saw your ticket on the Help Desk this morning and I asked the team to prioritise this a couple of hours ago. I must admit, I have never seen this error before but our support team will be able to get to the bottom of this for you for sure! Please keep an eye on your inbox and if you need anything else, please do not hesitate to reach out!

I know new features are added to products like Opus over time so I wanted to confirm my understanding that Opus CANNOT bring in streamed music/drum tracks via Bluetooth for practice scenarios like the Darkglass Element, correct? I bought an Element for this specific purpose but haven’t opened it yet. I wanted to be sure I have the best thing currently out there for my needs.

Currently it doesn't work that way.
Whether that capability can be exploited with the current architecture, I don't know.
Currently, Bluetooth is just for connecting to Torpedo Remote.

Good morning, Ross from Two notes here. No, due to some technical limitations and the bandwidth requirements for Torpedo Remote, streaming audio over Bluetooth wont be feasible in this iteration of OPUS. Nonetheless, this is a common feature request and is certainly with our development team for consideration in future iterations of our C.A.B. / OPUS platform. :)

It seems some OPUS owners have experimented with (third party) upright bass IRs. As a fretless player who frequently plays jazz, I was wondering what the results were and which IRs you used.
Really interesting use case - definitely keeping posted here for what IRs people are using!
