2 Notes Opus

I've never owned or played through a full tube amp, nor do I see a chance to do this in the future.

Baring that in mind there is a lot of discussion about the magic of power amp saturation/overdrive. Not having witnessed this phenomenon could I use the Opus into the effects return of one of my solid state amps to emulate realistic power amp saturation?
I mean, yes, you can certainly try to emulate it, and Opus will give you the means to do so. As someone who owned an old, old Ampeg B-18 fliptop for about 15 years, and was very familiar with the feel and sound of a full-tube rig (also used to plug into a full Traynor YBA tube rig at a rehearsal space for ~5yrs), I can say with certainty that Two Notes, or anybody doing modelling, has not gotten anywhere near what the actual feel and sound is like. The preamp sections are far more convincing, but getting pushed power tube emulation that feels realistic is seemingly much harder to do.

In fairness, that didn't stop me from selling the Ampeg, and moving away from tube power sections; getting even a relatively quiet 60w amp like that to a point where the power tubes were properly cooking is pretty much impossible in most non-stadium, or studio, spaces. A "properly" loud amp, rated in the hundreds of watts, would be even more of a challenge. So you can lug all that heavy iron around all you want, but good luck being able to take proper advantage!

Thank you for your impressions!

Thank you for the responses.
I'm hoping that the Opus can take over the roles currently being performed by an EQ pedal, Aguilar Tone Hammer DI and Shiftline Cabzone (EQ, preamp and cabsim/poweramp sim) for running both to a stage rig and FOH. If it can do that I really like the idea of routing EQ/preamp/poweramp to stage rig, but then EQ/Preamp /poweramp and cabsim to FOH. I haven't gone deeply down the rabbit hole of how to configure each terminus but I guess Ill be starting over the weekend (getting my Opus today).
The only analogue pedals I will then need is my tuner, EBS Billy Sheehan Deluxe (which also doubles as a compressor) and a volume pedal that I run at zero in the drive loop of the Billy Sheehan pedal for a clean sound that still allows the compressor in the EBS to function.

Just in case you haven't run across it Two Notes Opus Owners Manual.

The DI routing is however you set the sections up in Torpedo Remote or on the pedal itself; the Line Out routing can be done either in Torpedo Remote (click on the Edit tab at top left and then click on Setup) or on the pedal itself - see the Owners Manual.

Cheers for that - yeah Ive already grabbed the manual and had a read through. I'm not sure how granular you can get to in regards to how each output terminates but it looks like it will do what I want.

Yeah, I wish the EQ section was separated out and could be included before the DynIR section - I use it a lot, but never use the other parts of what they label Post TX.

I suppose that is the result of targeting guitarists over bassists.

Stupid guitarists......it's as if they are most prominent in the mix or something?

I believe so. What you describe is how i want to use it.

Thanks. I asked without taking a good look through the manual. I've been debating between the Opus and Shift Line Cabzone. I love the simplicity of the Cabzone but second hand units are scarce and no direct sales from Russia. I hate menu diving but for the price the Opus offers a lot.

Not to derail this thread but the Shiftline Cabzone X/Bass is the best standalone cab IR (that also does some power amp emulation) that I've tried IMO. Comparing against DSM Omnicabsim, Digitech CabDryVR, NUX Solid Studio, Joyo Cab Box.

The impulse responses sound very natural, and it has a unaffected output that you can run to amp/cab.

Can the routing be setup so that the cab IR is applied to the DI, while everything else goes through 1/4 out to physical amp/cab?
Just to clarify, from my understanding, the DI and Headphone signals are however you configure the sections on the Opus (with or w/o the Torpedo Remote).

The Line Out signal can be taken anywhere along the chain of sequential sections - from completely before all processing to after any of the following sections - to take the signal before the DynIR section is to omit the Post FX section which has the EQ section (IMO, major bummer, unless you have your own EQ whatever available).

Below is a screen capture of clicking the "Line Out Routing" and the resulting dropdown list.

Thanks John - makes sense.
Another random question - are there pedalboard power brick options that will power the Opus? I currently only gave an old Dunlop DC Power Brick and i dont believe that will do it?
Big thanks to John here! There are indeed a lot of drive/gain stages in OPUS each with their own tonal flavor so experimentation especially on the TSM preamp front is key! I personally like Aviator for more higher gain tones and Foundry Bass if I am front-loading OPUS with drive pedals.

In terms of the PSUs - we have some recommendations which can be viewed in our handy support article below...

If you have any questions concerning this, let me know! :)

I have more dumb questions!!! Well one for now....

You can certainly do this — in fact I do this with a lot of preamp pedals to add a convincing poweramp section - my advise would be to use the Depth and Volume parameters as your key controls here as they will have the most poweramp-like tonal impact!

You're welcome!

I REALLY wish the EQ section is separated from the Post FX and put before the DynIR section!
That would make the Opus more of versatile solution for more bassists and reduce the need for using other devices in getting the tone being chased!
I suppose I could attempt using my onboard preamp on my B5 Element, but probably a majority of bassists use passive bass guitars, not to mention, Opus' Custom EQ section is so much more versatile than a simple 3-band BMT preamp.

How is the editing on the unit itself vs the software? I'm always concerned about on-the-fly adjustments in a live setting with pedals like these.
Other than selecting Presets and volume levels, personally I haven't used the unit's controls enough to attempt that in a live situation.

Using a cell phone loaded with their app, would be a bit less risky.

I haven't tried changing EQ or other tone parameters on the unit at all.

I'm not sure, but a Midi controller might make that a bit easier - I don't yet use a Midi, so I don't know.

Not the most convenient given limited controls and screen real-estate but it does work. I personally hate the app on my phone, would much prefer something more minimalist and less skeuomorphic in design. I tend to just use it connected to my desktop and make occasional changes on the unit when needed.

A valid request indeed and one I have already sent to our team! Thanks again for the suggestion John!
