2014-2015 NHL Regular Season Thread

If you go by score alone, I'd say a 5 goal differential should do it - there is no way to put a happy face on 5 goals, even if the losing team hit a bunch of crossbars, got a bunch of bad calls and fluke goals against them. However, I watched most of the Toronto-Boston game and I would agree that the Leafs were worse than the score suggests. Especially with the Bruins not having Chara, the Leafs were probably figuring it was going to be a much easier game. Bruins scored a shorthanded goal, Toronto changed goaltenders, Bruins won faceoffs 41-27; Leafs scored their goal in the 3rd after the B's were up 4-0. I couldn't find stats on scoring chances or time of possession but it seemed like those were tilted to Boston. It wasn't like Rask had to stand on his head or the Bruins were getting a lot of goals on deflections, or the Leafs were ringing the posts all night, the Leafs lost one-on-one battles and made some bad decisions and the Bruins were way better at finishing than they have been so far.

They had a players-only meeting apparently after the game. From what I heard, it was not one to celebrate and give high fives. Carlyle apparently pulled a Tortorella...

Perfect homestand by the Kings against CBJ...kinda conflicted. I WANT CBJ to do well again this year, but I'll always root for the Kings.

Best wishes to Nick Foligno who was checked into the boards near the players' benches by Jeff Carter (cleanly) but his head collided with the linesman who was trying to avoid the getting hit. Irony, but I hope Foligno recovers quickly. Nasty hit and totally accidental.

Kopitar left the game with an injury. GAH. Enough of this.

That 70s Line produced 10 points today: 4G and 6A. Dayummmmm

Rangers starting off as inconsistent as usual, but Hank really looks off so far. I'd spot Talbot in there much more regularly, maybe, maybe not.

They definitely have speed. Could use more size though, and grit.

Nash has been crazy productive, but it seems he's the only one. I think Stepan coming back will help...but you can't go in the dumpster just because you have a center on the mend.

They just weren't that great last year. Lots of mojo and good enough at times plus Hank pulling saves out of his ass worked last year. Don't think that's been continuing so far this year.

Like the coach though.

I don't follow the Rangers closely, but I have noticed that Hank seems to be only average so far this season. It's definitely early enough for him to get in a groove and be his usual excellent self.

For sure. The Wild played 2 at home and took about a week off and had 2 away. LA had like 6 away games to start? Weird.

Nah LA had one home opener that they lost miserably to SJ (ugh), one away game they lost in OT to Arizona, and the six game perfect homestand that ended on Sunday. Now they're on a decently scheduled five-game road trip.

EDIT: I forgot that they played two games in a span of six days or something. Way too long of a break and I'm sure the team was itching to get back it ASAP.

My mistake. But the beginning of the year was strange.

I really like Olli Maatta, and he's about to be out for a month after he has thyroid surgery. Maybe the Pens call up another young defensemen....Samuelsson???

Rumblings in Pen's land about Malkin not liking or getting along with the new coach, Johnston, and that he is unhappy about player decisions. The few games I have seen this season, not just highlights, he looks to be playing that way to me.

NBA preseason trumps NHL regular season...or playoffs for that matter if it came down to it.

Sad truth, especially in LA. Even though the Kings' fanbase is growing and has always been doing so, it can't surpass the history and success of the Lakers. Kinda sucks; Vancouver here would give anything to have a hockey team that won two Cups in three seasons....as would any other Cupless team.

All you LAers, don't take the Kings for granted!!!! I certainly won't here in Vancity!
