3Leaf Audio Club - Episode 2

I haven't been able to get Spencer to ship my order of 5 knobs and an Anima preamp. I've bought from him before with no issues and the items were supposed to be in stock, but it's been over a month and crickets. At this point I just want my money back, so I emailed him requesting that he cancel the order, but no response. I've opened a PayPal dispute, which he hasn't responded to either.

I really hate to be the guy to air dirty laundry, but I would caution anyone from ordering from him until he gets this sorted out...

My Doom 2 is losing letters and I know he said he would replace the enclosure, but stories like yours make me worried I'd never get the pedal back.

Mine was for the silk screen issue. I didn't know there was a new case, but I wouldn't think there would be a difference swapping cases yourself to have to send it in? Or is there something special about the new new cases?

Spencer has said he will have his enclosures finished in a new way, he calls it GHOST on the website, to avoid future silk screen issues. I'm guessing it should be identical except the coating or paint or whatever process he's doing. I was just wondering if you had received one of those in the new finish and when..

OK guys, I think I have lost touch with reality so please give me a sanity check here.

I currently have a JoshWah, which I like a lot except there is no down sweep, and a Microtron IV, which is harder to dial in and not as smooth. I also have a funk-lite, fwonk beta, fx25, maybe a couple others too.

I want to settle on one good sounding, versatile, funky, easy to set envelope filter and sell the rest.

I’m jonesing for a Proton v4. They can be found for around $450.
Is it insane to spend that much if it might be “the one”???

I currently on a Chromatron (for the 3rd time now :rollno:) and from what I've read here and other sites is that it's the same basis for the v4 just with the additional features. With that I can say its the easiest to dial in any style of funky and bubbly sound and it's really hard to make it sound bad. I don't have any experience with the other filters you mentioned except the Microtron, which I had very similar experiences as you. I was a longtime Xerograph user, but mainly used it for the exp control. But I started to veer away from that and wanted a more traditional filter. Very happy with the Chromatron now. Super smooth response, dummy-proof controls (for someone like me), really nice round response that you can dial in and out a nice snap. If the v4 is the same, I'd think you'd enjoy it a lot. That price though? I can't say I've never paid more for a single pedal so... I dunno :)

I’ve got all three you referenced.

Joshwah is still my fave.

Proton v4 is my second favorite, but I snagged it for about $250-275 from a seller here, who wasn’t charging A$$hole markups.

Microtron is a pretty solid contender vs the Proton v4.

All that being said, Proton v4 is NOT $200 better than the Microtron IV, and the Joshwah, cheapest of the lot is still best IMHO.

Down sweep can be interesting, but I don’t find myself using it enough to justify the crazy price.

Have the Joshwah, Fwonkbeta, Proton V3, and had many others, including Microtron IV. Joshwah is easiest to dial in, wish there was a downsweep and a second footswitch to engage the gain circuit. Still dig it a lot Proton V3 is fantastic and a little harder to dial in, sounds great stacked with everything. Joshwah is still elite filter imo.

Still looking for a XD, hope I can make it happen some day.
