$67 Glarry P-Bass

I want a maple colored neck on the p bass from Glarry. Did those that purchased, get an offer to win a free bass if you upload a vid of you playing your Glarry?
I did. I made a video of my son playing. We did that several times and each time we attempted to upload, we were told the file was too large. We finally sent them a ten second vid of him noodling. They later sent us a message that they received it. Then, still later, sent us notification that we hadn't won anything. Too bad. I really had my heart set on the watermelon ukulele.

We almost won a free bass by ordering it for that price.

Play crocodile rock with a Hillbilly washtub bass, all I could think of.

So, @Thatbastarddon ... where are the bridge and pickup covers? :smug:

Looks great as it is, though!

Edit: How is the neck on yours?
Tempting as they are, I’m far too much of a slob to deserve them. But I’m really digging the look on yours!
I’m also digging the tortoise pickguard on mine!

Edit: I really like the neck on mine. Large, but not too crazy large. Easy for me to get around on.

So has anyone tried one of these $67 P’s? I stumbled across their $65 metal guitar on Walmart’s site, which led me to the bass. I’m almost curious enough to pull the trigger on the yellow P. Maybe the metal guitar also.

Just thought I’d add this:

Well, it's been a week and 3 days today that I received my Glarry Burlywood Precision Bass and I have to say that I am a believer. I am simply amazed. Not a sharp fret on this baby. No flaws on the finish and the back of the neck is satin finish like I prefer them to be. The neck is straight as an arrow with no buzzing...quite playable out of the box. Width at nut is 1.67", 0.86" front to back C shape and 1.03" at 12th fret transition to D shape.

The pups were very quiet and I raised them up a bit and they did get louder, but they seem to be low output. No noise. The knobs were great with no static and firm to turn.

For an entry level bass this thing is simply amazing. It is also about 6.5 lbs. on my analog 'health-o-meter' bath scale. Very light, so this is also worth looking into for gigging musicians with some back issues who know how to do some minor mods.

It shipped from a New Jersey warehouse to my front door in two days via Fed-Ex. Really quick!

Also came with cord and 2 allen wrenches

I think I might jump on the Jazz style Burlywood bass that is supposed to be available this August

Looks nice, apart from the pickguard appearing to have been cut to fit a different bass. I'm guessing "Burlywood" = Paulownia?
No idea about the wood. It’s really light. Less than 7 lbs.

The PG issue appears to be more of a misalignment issue than anything? Maybe not? Not sure?

Doesn’t impact playability :) but definitely OCD.

I’ve grown to hate my Burleywood Glarry so much. It’s in a case in the closet. Going from playing basses with normal necks back to it makes you realize how massive the neck is and I just hate the thin and hollow tone, even with the Quarter Pound in it. I need to get that pulled out and sell this thing. I’ll take some pizza for it

Why don't you spiff it up and set it up as well as you can and then save it until that poor kid who really wants a bass comes along? That's better than pizza.

Cool
Post some pics
I’ll bring the pizza

Neck on mine is 1.67” wide at nut
0.85” front to back
C shape
Transitions to D shape around 11th & 12th fret where it’s about an inch front to back

Just wondering how different yours is?

I’d love to see pix of it, I really would

These aren’t C necks, not even close. They are D bordering on U. They are baseball bats. A 1977 Jazz is .86” thickness and you are saying these things aren’t that thick? Numbers are off, they are way thicker than a 77 Jazz neck. I’ve posted pics of my P and J in numerous threads including this one.

My Glarry is a Precision style bass not a Jazz style bass.

Can you tell me where you posted your pix or post a link?

I kinda wish I never saw this thread. I have so many guitars! But only 2 basses at the moment. I just know I'll get the J in the next little while. Might have to get rid of some other gear first if I want to stay married. But it's too hard to pass up. I'm a decent guitar tech, so I know I can make it a real good player.

So what happened between May 2019 and now? You had quite a few posts showing your Burlywood P and Black J style Glarry basses? You even changed out pups. Just lost favor towards them?

Yep. The P still sounds thin and hollow, probably because its made out of plywood rather than basswood if I were to guess. I thought new pickups and strings would make a difference but I still hate the tone. I like the jazz a bit better but these won't get much playing time like I thought they would. I still want a P and a J.

Popping the neck or opening the control cavity would tell you in a glance if the body is ply, but I would bet you a pizza it is not. Burleywood appears to be a natural, exposed grain finish; in which case the forearm and belly carves would expose the plys.

I say the bass has a body of solid paulownia.
