Am I asking too much from the drummer?

I know, right? I even told this guy before that happened that I prefer not to bring politics into my band settings but he went there, anyway. Dork.
And my dork KNOWS we don't see eye to eye on politics. He often uses "See, that's what I like about you. You're not like other people who shove their politics down my throat."

And...yet...here he is. :roflmao:

I didnt read all the responses, so im sure this has probably already been mentioned, but I generally dont want to carpool unless I know the person well. Reason being is that Im "usually" on time, and when I want to go, I want to go. I dont want to wait around for someone or have to work around their inner clocks. Our drummer is always late, so I would go mental if I had to deal with him. As time goes on, it may change but I wouldnt sweat it.

This is it for me as well. I am impatient about my time and I really don't like being held hostage by people who are taking their time breaking down or shooting the breeze with everyone when I am ready to get back home and relax. I'm this way about everything. Bring me my check while I'm eating dinner, don't hold me hostage at my table after I'm finished.

Exactly how I am. For example, we have a gig tonight, and I wont hang around to help (mostly the drummer) move their stuff afterwards because of how long it takes. I did in all my other bands, but these guys are 3 toed sloths and just take forever. I tried the first few gigs, but I ended up standing around forever and told them Im not doing that anymore and they were fine with it. Some people are just different, but that stuff makes me crazy.

Is this confirmed?
Well here is a pic from our last gig

Maybe you should offer to meet him at his house.

if I was doing the long drive I wouldn’t want to make it even longer by having to pick some one up.

Yeah, let me impose on you, crow bar myself into your day, then make you pick me up & drive to practice with you... no thanks. Not saying It's you,but some people are very sensitive to this kind of stuff. nothing against you but maybe he just, doesn't want to be put out of the way & be forced to "rideshare". I used to work with a guy who was very introverted, conversations with him were like pulling teeth! He was shy & very private! I could tell hated to be asked how his weekend was! it made me uncomfortable! I just backed off! I chalked it up to him being socially ********. I learned an uncormfortable lesson in respecting others personal space & privacy. dont take it personal, just give him a little space. His loss.GL

Gotta love a happy drummer!
It just sank in that this is a 3 hour commute. I would do a 3-hr round trip commute for an epic show with a seriously good band that was paying well, and I would only do it a couple of times as dress rehearsal after everyone in the band already knew their parts down cold. I would not sign up for that as a weekly thing.
Me, neither. A few rehearsals to get the songs down would be about it for me. But what about the shows? If the BL is an hour and a half away there's a good chance that the gigs will be that far away, too, or more.

You have the problem, not him.

Its a good idea in your mind to carpool with him because your car is not up to snuff.

While your offer to cover expenses is fine, it is also fine for him to decline.

You have the problem not him.

We're all grown-ups (more or less) and can be supportive and helpful to our bandmates to an extent, but we should all carry our own weight and be responsible for ourselves.

Perhaps financially if that outweighs peoples other concerns as highly evidenced in the replies to the OP. One may value privacy or whatever issue more than they do $7.
I will consider carpooling if I know that parking is a problem where I'm headed. That's usually more the case with a venue than with a rehearsal space, though. If I know the musicians involved and I know I won't be stuck there with a drunk who's taking an hour to break down because he's chatting up his buddies, I would probably do it. But I'd have to know that we're getting out of there with reasonable speed.
