Ambient/Post-Rock/Textural bass playing thread

Terminal patching in progress.
See if I can explain the attached signal path.

Bass goes into the Night Owl Edison preamp on the bottom right. The output goes to the Terminal, then gets split to “clean” and “dirty” paths. Since Terminal is passive, I’ve got to crank the Edison gain to push the signal through all the splits and drive my mixer.

The “dirty” path is driven by the Volt Thrower into the OCSD.

I can run these two paths at any blend I want using my mixer.

Now for the Zoia, aka the tricky part. The clean Terminal path has an available FX loop, as does the dirty path. The Zoia has two inputs and two outputs, so I next route the clean through the left in/out, and dirty through the right in/out.

Inside the Zoia, as it is pictured, the top left blue squares are the audio in modules (L/R) and the top right blue modules are the audio out.

Clean goes into the green module, which is a compressor, then the pink, which is a delay, and finally to the yellow, which is a reverb.
The dirty signal does almost the same thing, except skips the compressor.Now I’ve got a clean and dirty delay sound blended to the reverb.

After this proof of concept, the next step will be to start building more complex combinations of modules. I can see the need for a mixer module in Zoia (which it has) so I can utilize stereo delays and reverbs with the stereo output, instead of having two mono outputs. I’ll just sub-mix the clean and dirty signals inside Zoia.

It’s was a lot of thought to get a clean and dirty signal path out of one bass and run them both through delay & reverb effects :)

My next goal is to use Zoia to put something like a trem effect on the dirty signal and and a delay on the clean sound. Or, for that matter, any combo of effects that sounds complimentary. Zoia is handy for running parallel effects paths inside of a single box. The flexibility of all the included modules opens up a world of possibilities, particularly if you figure out how to sync the various available modulation controls (LFO, envelope, sequencer, etc.).

Have you used Elliot Garbus' Meris editors on the computer? Game changer. I have a Polymoon, Merc 7 and and Enzo, and I use em all the time. Has a patch generator mode that really lets you come up with lots of great stuff.
Yeah those editors are amazing. I have been having trouble w the ottobit jr one, but the Hedra one really helped me figure that pedal out. If you use MIDI, those editors are incredible for building presets and experimenting w sweepable params.

Zoia seems so up my alley. I have too many of these study needing pedals though. Maybe after I get my MIDI flowing for the 856 for zellersasn Ill make the jump...kinda wanna check out a blooper or mood also and those too are fairly deep rabbit holes.
