RANDOM PATTERN ON MODEL:CYCLES
Into the Soundcraft 22 MTK- out its USB and into Logic
Into Soundcraft, analog out into Lynx Aurora to Logic
Straight from M:C into Lynx Aurora

RANDOM PATTERN ON OCTATRACK STEREO OUT
Into Soundcraft- out its USB to Logic
Into Soundcraft, analog out to Lynx Aurora
Straight from OT to Lynx Aurora

Did my very best to match levels, but not claiming it to be scientific in any way! Everything recorded 24/48

They all sound good. Very good!!!!
I think the Lynx only has a little less « brittle\sparkly » top end. More « organic..... ».......if this makes any sense......
But maybe its just my brain inventing this because I know what was used. (The brain can actually make you hear things that aren’t true if you’re convinced other wise......for example lets say you used 3 different patch methods but actually used the same thing 3 times......the brain will « hear 3 different things even though they are exactly the same)

Blindfold test I think I couldn’t tell the difference.

I’d use use it a\b going into 2 amps. (One signal would be guitar side the other bass)
Can you turn on\off each channel independently??

Like A+B, just A or just B would be my 3 settings.

That thing sounds THICK!!!!!!! I really dig it.......(looks at thin wallet over on the counter top)

This was a very basic ‘test,’ just to rule out any huge differences. I feel like the ones straight into the Lynx sounded a bit smoother and maybe even ‘bigger.’ I’m pleasantly surprised how little difference there was between a $900 USB mixer and a $4,500 converter though :)

You’re telling me, like I said......it’s very very very very very very close. Wow I’m seriously impressed by the 900$ mixer.

Go back 10-15 years and the difference between A\D converters was HUGE!!!!!!

Cheers to making affordable stuff sound awesome.

My soundcard will remain a old ancient ninja secret.

From what I can tell you can do A, B, or A+B. I’ll know for sure in ??? weeks when it arrives.

I think bigger differences might surface when recording acoustic instruments or bands. I notice the differences mostly around the edges. The top tier stuff is smoother in the highs, more defined lows and a somewhat wider soundstage. I gotta think electronic music is easier to track as we tend to select sounds that work well together, tune em, replace em before tracking if need be, etc.
recording a band you kinda get what they give you, then you have to reconcile it all.

Another argument for the high end stuff could be... comparing a single sound to a single sound you may notice very tiny differences, but if you track 20-30 different tracks and each one just sounds a tiny bit better, would that not add up to a whole lot better by the end? Just spitballing :)
Now that I know the Soundcraft sounds pretty good, my one complaint is that it only records via USB pre fader. Not the end of the world, but I like the kick eq I’m getting off the board better than anything I can get in the box after.

I guess my point is that the converters are way down the list of what will keep you from making a good recording. Very few people will care what converter was used.

I mean I still listen to White Light/White Heat even though the recording quality isn’t the best. And there are plenty of pristine sounding songs that I can’t stand hearing.

Of course! But the opposite can be true as well. It’s tough to ruin a great song that’s well performed and all the tech in the world can’t fix a bad song. BUT if you know what things CAN sound like...just saying :)
