Anyone else find themselves pulling back from Reverb listings? Probably a bigger issue for Californians, since the new sales tax collection policy hits hardest in areas with higher sales tax. I spotted a few mint items listed fairly close to retail prices and I just can’t see my way to going used on a $500 item and saving $15 when I can pop for the same item at Perfect Circuit and get a better return policy and warranty handling. I realize that not every sale needs a return or warranty, but the security is nice. Last year, $15 off and $50 in sales tax not collected was significant.

yes. i factor that in all the time now. really, i don’t have a problem with it as the tax base is needed for local needs and it also drives biz to local stores.

i mean it might suck for me, but i don’t have a problem with it due to my reasoning above.

they weren’t paid by the state, so if your place was on fire, you had to pay them *before* they would put out the fire. if they were particularly broke, they would sometimes set fires so they could get paid to put them out.

I noticed I’m now paying sales tax on Reverb. Is that a Reverb thing or a PayPal thing? When I bought my EssenceFM from Perfect Circuit online I paid with a cc and there was no sales tax

It’s a new Reverb policy. It gets collected on new and used items. They got dinged for being nationwide and not collecting. Individual shops can opt out of collecting the tax. As a buyer, it is your obligation to track these purchases and submit sales tax on them. In CA we have a place on the annual state tax return filing forms.

• Since we were talking about Waldorf stuff lately, I saw someone posted on Facebook about Waldorf’s Largo soft synth on sale for $29 (normally $174) on a site called audio plugin deals. Kinda convoluted process, but it worked fine and the synth is decent from what can tell so far. Supposed to be very similar to the Blofeld

the new law is nationwide from what i understand. it’s for every entity that has a “presence” in a state, which includes ebay, reverb, amazon, etc.

i think it’s the result of a lawsuit brought by north dakota.

Sounds about right. Shops like Perfect Circuit can argue they have a one-state footprint which exempts them from collecting. It would be a material burden for them to track every sale by state and remit the collections.

Has the Waldorf Largo on sale for $29, so I got it to see if Waldorf stuff can get weird and it gets all kinds of weird. Just messed with it for an hour or so and it’s really fun

The used market has been horrible the last few years imo.

You should get sick just to take advantage of all that free healthcare. Though it’s probably not the best time to make extra trips to hospital.

Ya, my last trip to the hospital sucked.
Broke my toe in 3 places with the bone sticking out a 1inch cut.
Toe nail went flying, huge pool of blood.
6 hours at the hospital, they pulled it back in place without anesthesia since it wore off.

I remember my wife’s face saying:
“OOOO stop it, it’s just a toe”
Then her face going white when she saw the trail and puddle of blood on the floor.

Fun times!!!!

Dumbest part.....doing that much damage just going up the basement stairs. You gotta a have a special fail talent for that.

Definitely. There's been a few things I was about to pull the trigger on via reverb and then realized that it was through a store and if I went direct to the store, it would be cheaper without the sales tax even if I had to pay for shipping.

So much cool gear for such bland jack hammer drum beats.

IMO, IME, YMMV.....etc.....my 2 cents.....

He spent a few minutes pointing out that the USB cables don’t always power the Tracker even though they should. Then trips on the fact that the Tracker and Bassline use different MIDI TRS standards (make sure you have the right adapters). He also “discovers” that the Tracker sequencing of external midi is really a gate-on with each note, and if you don’t program an “Off” note the midi synth will just sustain. I found that with my Renoise experiment.

Man, the beat he programs is tough to listen to. He goes on and on about how it can be unquantized unlike other devices which actually have micro-step grids that your unquantized playing will get attached to, making it quantized but at a very fine value.

How can you tell if his jack hammer is not quantized??

He usually quantizes the #%^##^out of everything.

Even when he says its not......its sounds grid snapped as $hizzle to me.

Personally, IF I decide at some point down the line to get a Tracker, I would use it as it’s own ecosystem anyway. Seems more suited to be a self contained rig than sequencing external midi anyway.

He does a bit of workflow stuff at the end and it really doesn’t strike me as a live performance machine. It’s much more of a program and play. Maybe he just didn’t demo it well, but the video was not igniting my GAS for either device.
