Ampeg Rocket Bass Combos

No specs about their actual frequency response? can the large ones like 115 and 210 take low B's even low E's?
My Fender Rumble 100 couldn't. My friends Rumble 500 neither. With added cab. Maybe Low E perhaps, but not lower than drop D.
I just got a RB115. So far I like it a lot.

I can see where guys say it gets a little boomy but keep the bass knob under control and avoid the ultra low switch and I think it cleans up fine. It can be boomy but not muddy which is key.

the sgt is cool. It can do dirt but I like it more with the grit set really low and the level up a good bit, adds a bit of warm “tube” goodness.

The biggest pleasant surprise for me was how this thing handles a low B. Man, it’s great!

So far so good.

My previous RB115 can handle low B (Sub Ray5), but volume knob never pass 1 o'clock since play in my practice room. So i don't know how the B string quality after that volume. Since RB115 has more lo end spread, i also not sure the B string sound quality on other 5 string bass.

Rb112 able handle D standard tune well from my previous Squier CV50P with LTF4A flatwound bass string.

Suggest visit the store which has RB available and bring along with your 5 string bass , try and compare.

The extra surprise on RB combo is the G string on sterling bass sound fuller than my previous combo i own.

Those were the days. You're still living in the 90s I think? If you have lived under a rock the latest decade, I suggest you go out and try to find any music store, apart from the largest cities. I live in a 350.000 populated town, and we have only ONE music store, that doesn't carry Ampeg at all. RB or not. The only thing one can do these days is ordering from anything online, unpack it plug it in, and then - if not satisfied - repack it and send it back. Next stop is 55 minutes drive by car, and yes, the gas prices today...this is Sweden.

If that was possible, I've already would've done that a long time ago. Still, since this is more the norm, now, that order from internet vendors, the need for more detailed specs have turned more crucial. Ampeq just lists mundane and not crucial or unimportant specs. Say, frequency repsonse plus minus 3 db.

Just a suggestion because you asking. I will skip/ignore you next time for sure.

I guess I'll share the recordings that @R2Bass and I did trying to sort out this RB210 buzz/hiss.

Mine was through an AudioBox96 and his was through a Scarlett. For the sake of scientific method we both did the following:
  • no bass connected to the inputs
  • 5 seconds of the DI at volume 0
  • 5 seconds with volume at max level
  • EQ flat
  • interface gain at 12 o'clock

I want to clarify, I don't know if any of this is normal or should be expected. I am not an expert. Now that I've been playing through mixer --> PA at home, as long as I don't push the input gain too far on the board, I don't hear it over the PA.

That being said, since I've experienced this with multiple 210 models, and the other models I've tried don't have this issue, I suspect it could be a design flaw of the 210.

Evening gentlemen! I've recently been downsizing, and have put my Quilter rig up for sale at the same time I picked up a decent deal on a clean RB112 with cover and well, you can color me impressed!

Hiss/hum free operation, very usable EQ with the beloved Ultra switches, unexpectedly full and powerful sound, and a decent onboard OD! I'm usually not impressed by most onboard OD's in solid state amplification, but the Ampeg crew did a great job with the SGT. It really can cop decent sounds from B15 to SVT. I thought I'd miss a dedicated input gain knob, but for my purposes, the SGT Level with grit turned all the way down get it done just as well.
