Ampeg Rocket Bass Combos

Have you tried a 112av yet? It's about the most perfect sounding 112 cab in existence. Except for volume, I actually dug my 112 more than my 212. Size and weight is the deciding factor on whether it's the "best 112" or not.
I like the 112 AVs . They sound good with every amp I have . If I'm not using PF 50 T , I use a Demeter 400 on anything that needs to get loud. Demeter sounds great with everything .
I got rid of the PF 500 head .

I like the pf800 much better than the 500. It just stays clean. No matter what you do to it. The 500 seemed to break up a lot when I pushed it hard. Which, it didn't sound bad driven, it's just not what I want in a solid state head. I do love my 800 though. So much, that I have two of them. And a 3 pro, and a 7 pro, and a V4b, and a rb112, and a fridge, and a 112av, and 2 210avs, and a 410he, and...

Hahahahahaha

I could never push either of them anywhere close to the point you do on a gig, but I did get to AB the 500 and 800 once out of the same 810e and thought the 800 had a little more oomph to it even though they basically have the same sound.

But I went PF-50T, too :D

Had its first live run today in church. It's perfect. Bass down 1 knotch, mids up half a knotch, volume on 3. Big, open, all ampeg. And, it looks great!

Tone sat perfectly on stage, and all was well through the system. No hum, no volume problems, cherry.

I love it when I get the right thing the first time. View attachment 4323318
Is that a RB112 or RB115?

It's only 100 watts . 100 watts of the company's economy line . A 300 watt SVT doesn't need them . It would be nice to run a PF 112 with these though . Add a 1/4 out and go 8 ohm combo . 50 or 60 watts at 8 ohm .
But the idea of this amp is to be very inexpensive . If this amp won't cut a gig with no FOH . Bring something that will . This is a grab and go fun( studio/bedroom) amp first and foremost . And it just happens to sound good . I really wouldn't expect a lot more out of one of these . I figure it will probable work fine where I use my B100R .
It is pretty much firing on every cylinder if you ask me .

Not disagreeing with you on this. Just expect a brand new amp would have all the latest doo dads. Not like it would add any to the price.

Might pick up a RB112 and put it through its passes.

I shot my constructive criticism for version 2 to Dino. He told me it was much appreciated, and that he'd send my couple "con" points down the line to development.

Di options - pre/post and a pad switch.
Voicing - little less boomy on flat (12 only. That's the one I have).
Gain knob

Version 2's gonna rock

Did you mention the Speakons?

For my ears, +1 on the boom when set flat ... yet this is well addressed with a slight tweak of the bass knob (I don't nor have I ever belonged to the school that consider EQing an amp as sacrilege).

I went into my local store to check if they have the RB112 in stock yet. They didn't. So I walked out with an Ampeg SCR-DI. GAS works in mysterious ways.

Not a bad alternative pickup. I really like mine and pretty much leave it on no matter what amp I’m using. You can get a strong SVT tone so it’s a great second choice to go to. For recording, I’ll go from it directly to my Scarlett and do everything else off my DAW. Enjoy!

PS: just don’t drop it on your foot...

Man, it's like everyday I'm a little more happy with this guy. It seems to handle me better, and be a little cleaner and clearer every time I plug in. I guess those whackos that say amps have a "break in period" aren't quite as crazy as they seem.

Being from the camp of the “wackos,” the more you play this combo, up to a certain point, the sweeter it’s gonba get. You have to stretch out the speaker’s suspension components before it loosens up to what you’re beginning to now hear.

I’ve used many Eminence speakers over the years and they, to me, sound better a month after bringing them home.

But the question remains, are you a loyal Ampeg customer? :smug:

I agree on the pre/post, especially for recording; I’m on the fence with the voicing (yes, there’s some boom there, but if changing it alters the legacy they’re trying to convey, they’ll keep it as is).

As for the gain knob in some cases, yes, it would be advantageous if you're plugging bass into amp, but with pedals I can live without it.

All good suggestions to the Mothership, Jeezy.

I’m still curious as to how the RB-112 will compare sound-wise with a B-100R (haven’t seen any RB vs. B comparisons here). I just sold one of my B-100Rs, so I might have to buy an RB-112 and find out for myself. I anticipate that the difference in timbre will be significant. (Not considering an RB-115 because I’d never use the extension speaker feature.)
