Ampeg SVT 7 Pro Club

Tried again via my Roland headphone, this evening. Compression @ 9am, no ultra hi or low, bass, gain & master knobs on 12am, treble at 7-8 am, midrange fully down. Might be a weird setting for some, but gotta admit, I liked it a whole lot more now. Tomorrow I'm gonna check how it sounds through my 210HE and 410HLF.

Sounds like you should just use the bass boost switch. It has a mid cut built into it. If you like such a drastically scooped mid why don't you use the eq on the bass?

If I were able to do a search for "-15" I may have found my answer, but since I can't I'll just ask. How many of your play active basses with this button NOT pressed? It's just sooooo much louder, as long as it doesn't clip I'm ok right?

If you can find a tone you like at a volume you can handle, go without the pad. The breakup when using the pad isn't nearly as nice as without it. Even if you are "clipping," you're still okay, as long as the light isn't on continuously - even flashing every note is okay, it's the "Ampeggy goodness" light.

I play a Stingray 5 and I don't use the -15db pad, I also crank the gain to about 3pm and I ignore the "clip" light, haven't had a problem yet.

I almost always play my active basses through the passive input, or in the passive setting, or with the -xx pad not engaged, as appropriate.

Then again, I don't run a ton of EQ on my on-board preamps, either.

Well.. put me in for a number.. A short story about my SVT 7.

I bought mine in Feb. 2010 when they first came out Rev. A00. Had a hiccup when I first turned it on, powered it down and back up and ran fine for three years after that. Then the hiccup again a month or so ago before a gig, then a loud pop through the cabinet and everything was fine after that.. finished the gig with great tone but I didn't want that happening again.

Now a HUGE praise to Ampeg. (Will have to post in Ampeg thread as well) I emailed Ampeg with the above info and more detail of both situations and they have replaced the unit with a new Rev. C00. Testing the new unit tonight.. :bassist:

I cannot say enough about the Customer Service I received... Great amp and great customer service.. (That's my 3 cents)

I had a glorious experience last night with my 7 Pro, I reached a point in my tone chasing that I never thought I would, satisfaction! For the first time ever I was completely happy with my bass tone and achieved almost total bliss. I just recently acquired at Stingray 5 and a B3K, the combination of the 7 Pro, the MM pre, and the B3K, brought forth the most gnarly, yet beautiful tone my ears have ever had the joy of hearing. Just wanted to share that with everyone, love this amp!

I've found this to be true with almost ALL MI amps.
The pad seems to kill the livelyness and a$$ whumping ability of a Stingray.
Never had one of them fancy pants active basses with a bunch of knobs and switches though.

with my warwicks I just set the gain at around 12 to 2 o'clock and it just sweet to my ear, the light flash on medium strikes but I don't care too much about the light... just use your hear... From what I understand form the Dino's gain structure videos on youtube the light should help to find the classic tone and to have the best result from the pre and eq section...

But you can get some pretty nasy distortion when gained at full blast... may be I'm wrong but i've been told at the store where I bought mine you won't break the amp doing the gain at full, the amp should be designed to handle that... is that true ??

I did more testing last night, and it seems the "sweet" spot for the gain is between the 12:00 and 2:00 position. I had the master also at noon, and just adjusted volume levels on my bass from there. I was able to get some screamingly loud tones, and the "peak" light was blinking on just about every finger stroke. But if y'all say that's ok, I'm gonna keep doing it that way and hope nothing goes wrong...

It'll be fine to crank the gain.
