Somehow I expect he likely doesn't play all the cover songs originally as recorded yet expects others to. Him changing is creative license, others is unacceptable.

It could be a case where his ego is 3 times the normal allowance. I'm guessing his talent is less than average.

Yep. Illinois banned it a year or so ago, if memory serves. I live near the border so I catch a lot of Illini griping.
Beginning of this year (Chitown burbs banned it last year). I live in IL so all my smoking friends bitch constantly. I love the ban, it's nice being able to see and not going home smelling like an ash tray.
Gig in MO I forgot they smoke there still, my gig bag still reeks of smoke.
I wish I could get the smell of smoke out of my gig bags as well. Febreeze will only do so much.
Fort Wayne has banned it and I think Bloomington too. It's spreading.....

I totally respect him being so upfront. It's probably hard for some to understand that this is the music buisness and this is a job. Do you have right to ask him questions? Sure. It surprises me that everybody wants to bash this guy, he sounds like an actual pro whose had to deal with amateurs one too many times. If I still played in bar bands, or if I decide to do so again, I hope that I play with people who are upfront about their likes/dislikes and goals for the band. Book every weekend and I'll play them all, does anybody have so much work that they can't commit to a band, yet they want to be in one anyway?

I think that it's more that he crossed a line. Being specific is one thing (good), he crossed the line into anal (bad). I don't like working with people who are drunk or high so the sober/ no drugs makes sense to me. Smoking (I don't smoke) is a little strange unless everyone travels to the gig in one vehicle or he's allergic to cigarette smoke, then it would make some sense. Actually, if he had written the ad as either trying to form a trio, or reforming an existing trio, the big warning flags would only be the play it as written, new age, and most of his will only contact and bonus points section. As he never lists his influences you have little to base what he's looking for. There is also the implication of jumping right into the regional band market without honing the band locally. If he has contacts and can get regional band $ then most of the player skills requirements are not unreasonable. My guess though is that he is an average player with a lot of dreams

It could be me, but I would rather go for this one then our very specific first ad ... I like a bit of discipline in a band (it is no fun when one or more of the members shows up a few hours late on a rehearsal) but playing music is not my daytime job, so I certainly want to have a high fun-factor.
