Double Bass Any idea what I should pay for this?

Ask the seller if you can take it to a local Luthier. The luthier can give you an Idea of the bass' health and why that bridge is in the wrong spot.
You can buy a new Engelhardt for $1100-$1500 totally set up and a Nice Shen or Upton For $1400- $1900.

Thanks for the pics but you missed key areas: the neck button, neck joint, scroll area, pegbox, endpin, and edges (seams). In any case, your best bet is to take the bass to a qualified luthier to be examined. Pics cannot tell the whole story. For example, we can't tap on the bass bar area via the internet. 
As Drurb mentioned...these pictures don't show much of the important stuff. Do you have the opportunity to see the bass in person? Kindly ask the owner for more detailed pictures, and you'll get some more tips...or just make an appointment with a luthier. Either way...I took your last response as rather discourteous. Drurb was trying to be helpful. While his response may not have furthered your objective as quickly as you would wish, it was relevant.

The other imponderable-through-pictures is - how does it SOUND? You can have a bunch of basses that cost exactly the same amount of money in a room and they are all going to sound different.
In today's market I would'nt pay over $400 for that bass. It needs a fingerboard dressing and setup at least. At worst... who knows

My apologies for trodding upon free speech, but I've pruned this thread quite a bit in an effort to keep TalkBass Rule #1 from completely disappearing down the toilet. Let's make like we're friends.
To answer the original question: yeah, I wouldn't pay more than about $400 for that bass either. It's a buyer's market and these days there are tons of high-quality, inexpensive basses available.

I think 700 bucks would be fair for that bass, assuming the bass-bar isn't busted and the neck is OK. Isn't it worth a bit more since it's violin shape? Plus the wood on the top looks really nice to me, nice tight straight grain.

Wow that's so weird. The mouth looks more like the nose than in any other mouth-nose combination I've ever seen. It's almost as if the mouth evolved from the nose or somethin'.
On the other hand, if you put your eyes out of focus a bit, it looks like some sort of cute upright puppydog. The nose is the head, the nostrils are the eyes, the sides of the nose are the ears (floppy, see) the middle part is the dog's nose, and the top and bottom lips form arms and an abdomen, respectively.

Thanks and sorry about getting outta hand... I was just asking the experts for what they thought since I didn't have a clue what to look for.
