Any metalheads here?

I love 80's thrash metal too like the big 4; Megadeth, Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax.

The 90's was a great time for metal like Pantera, Tool, Testament, Savatage, Maiden plus the Grunge movement with Soundgarden , AIC, and Nirvana.

It was a great time back then.

Love me some Mastodon / Baroness / Kyuss ... if you can call it metal, maybe stoner / progressive Metal.
And ofc... My bass pedal board wouldn't be what it is, without being inspired by Justin from Tool.
A lot of my improvised licks wouldn't be without being inspired by Chi From Deftones (rip).

It's strange for me to say - especially on a bass forum - but the two metal bands that I've been listening to a lot recently don't have a bass player!

Slomatics & Black Cobra. The guitar tones are crushing and there's plenty of bass frequencies.

I also love KEN Mode, Anciients, Baroness. Some great bands from Portland - Toxic Holocaust, Sioux, and Wizard Rifle.

For my old school fix - Candlemass.

Dude awesome!!!... Anciients was my recent discovery after I got into Baroness and Mastodon!

Proud metalhead here! Grew up in the AZ thrash scene in the 80s... The time when Metallica nabbed Jason from Flotsam and Jetsam. My roommates band practiced at our rental home and they often opened for Sacred Reich and Flotsam. Great times. Metal is in my blood!

Sacred Reich is one of my all time favs!!! So many good memories had with them blasting in the background. Same with Flotsam...

I'm expanding into the metal category, finally (not the sub categories-so much).
Are converts welcome?

that's the cool thing about the metal world....everyone is welcome for the most part. At least in my circles, there is no snobbery...other than you have to be trve cvlt once you are in....:D

and sorry, but you won't be able to avoid the sub-genres...just get in the boat and enjoy the ride

I've also got to mention several female fronted bands I really love, and that's In this Moment with the smokin' hot Maria Brink, the Italian band Lacuna Coil with Cristina Scabbia, and the Finnish symph metal band Nightwish.

In this Moment's newest CD Blood is a bit of a departure from the previous 3 releases in that it's considerably harder with a lot more screaming vocals as Maria is known for, and does so with such a feminine touch.

we played with them on their very first tour here in C-bus. They were pretty cool, but I couldn't tell whether she was being a diva, or just shy. She didn't talk to me much (like all hot women, so I thought it was just the norm) but the rest of the group was pretty down to earth. I think this was before they were signed too as they were traveling in a van

I like 80s/90s metal mostly. NWOBHM, Thrash stuff like that. New stuff I like Amon Amarth, Skeletonwitch, Ghost, Mastadon. But no one will ever be as great as King Diamond !

Has there been a better opening bass riff in the past 10 years then Ghost's Con Clavi Con Dio?? I saw Ghost about 6 months ago and I had so much fun I felt like I was 16 again at my first rock show. It was beautiful.

I can't think of one. The tone is P-Bass at it's best.

I'd love to see them live.

Vancouver BC has it going on right now. If you think Anciients is good. Check out Baptists live at rain city on youtube. I would NOT want to follow these guys - EVER!!!

One of the best drummers I've ever seen. Reminds me of Thee Slayer Hippie from Poison Idea (except much skinnier). You can watch the whole set from drum cam. I highly recommend it.
