Depends on the misfortune..... folks have been doing it to me for decades, and there are those I'd be quite happy doing it to in return.
Might actually clear my conscience to finally retaliate a bit.
I know I know, I probably won't. But it sounds a little tempting... ;-)
That's true. If the economy tanks and you're thinking about a new 5-string...I mean, do I really have to say it?
Strong economy and an 11 year bull market...something like this was bound to happen but it is a transient correction at worse. The market will be back up to 30K in no time. Personally, I like buying stocks when they're on sale.

Not planning on buying anything. I won't be trying to sell anything either though. Just like my investments, if I sell now, I'm crystallizing my losses. Some countries are already starting to recover, so hopefully this will just be a short term thing.
Just stockpile some ex-lax and the issue should resolve.
I'm not worried... it's all behind me, now.

As far as new, no. In the last 30 years stuff has never been made nor priced lower than ever before, courtesy of modern CNC cutting machinery and low wages in 3rd world countries.
Ibanez, ESX and a lot of off name basses are less than a hundred bucks but play really well for the money
Ive recently picked up decent P-bass copies for 40-50 bucks. a tweak, and a new set of strings, and off it goes to a kid who cant even afford that...

Unfortunately I predict something like this as well. Had 2 gigs cancelled this week. I fear for the others on my calendar. What can we do? Stay healthy then pick upwhere you left off when (and if) this corona thing subsides.
This, exactly. I think online sales probably go up short term as people redirect entertainment money and have more spare time, then long term instruments get cheaper as the global economy tanks. I can see a lot of forced sales of used equipment at fire sale prices though, which is sad.
Here in Switzerland, it would be nice if the second hand market had to suffer from this crisis in progress. People here tend to sell their stuff even with bigger price than new, always called "collector" or "new cause I get it, doesnt like it, too lazy to return it, want all my money back", the second hand market is useless here. For example, here, you can have a "brand new/but crudely re-finnished without removing part/one pickup missing Steinberger Spirit GT-pro still under waranty" second hand guitar for the crazy price of 380 francs (wich translate rughly into 380 USD). You can have the same, from the shop, for 361 francs...but it will not be this rare version!
