I went to the local GC today and asked the clerk if I could buy the Seafoam green EBMM Sterling bass tagged at $299 for the bass. I offered to buy that bass with a case out the door (tax included) for $300. He just laughed!

6 basses, a guitar, 2 drum sets, multiple keyboards, effects pedals, 2 bass amps, a recording setup with portable options, multiple microphones, and more, all on the cheap. Also, solid security. 
Not bad stuff at all, just inexpensive to me.

Ugh...i planned to sell a couple of basses to buy a new washer and dryer....maybe not a good year to try

I was casually shopping for a new upright when the 2008 recession hit. I have no idea if there were bargains out there due to the recession. But at the time, I decided I'd have more options with the cash in my pocket than with a new bass if something happened such as getting laid off. So I waited. You might have the cash, but you might also discover that you need the cash.

I've thought for the longest time, in the larger view of instruments, electric bass guitars are exceptionally inexpensive. A serious upright bass, or piano? Acquisition of one of those may require a bit of planning.
To answer the question in the OP: if this lasts for more than a couple of months, yes. There will be fellow musicians who rely on performing solely for their income who'll unfortunately run out of savings and start liquidating gear.
Those of us who are not in that boat still need to keep their GAS in check, though. No one knows what type of toll this crisis will have on the economy in general.

I went grocery shopping this afternoon...not my most fun experience ever. I have a sick feeling that the price of instruments is about to become... kinda irrelevant, in the foreseeable future. I'm thankful that I have lots of cash where I can put my hands on it quickly, but I ain't planning on buying anything that goes Twang! with it - unless it's a compound bow...

The demand has been WAY down for years. I saw a steep decline in 2018 and it’s only gotten worse.
Stuff that used to sell in hours or at least in the same day would take days...now it’s taking weeks, even months to sell. Add in the recent “shock” who knows.
Everything has long been overvalued, not just basses and gear. Greed is the highest it’s ever been. Mainly because money was cheap...but now getting cheaper.
If house prices fall...well...people will be liquidating assets. However, hard to say what will come of this event as it unfolds. Some form of change will happen, I’m sure of that. It’s severity will be based on a few factors for sure.

I don't think new instruments are going to get any less expensive but there may be a slight dip in the prices of used instruments. It really depends on how the economy reacts to the current situation. What I have noticed is that there are fewer people buying instruments than in the past. I've had a few guitars and basses for sale for several months listed at prices that are slightly below the average sold prices on site such as Reverb, Craigslist and Facebook Market Place. I haven't had a single inquiry.
Actually. Not only am I certain they will get cheap, but I don’t think I have GAS anymore. I went the grocery store at 7:04 and there were no paper products or meat. Also it was packed.
