anyone not like musicman basses?

It's not outrage. It's more a question of - what's the point?

Are there basses I don't care for, won't play? Yes. I bet this is the case with almost everyone on Talkbass.

But "anyone not like musicman basses" is an ignorant question and doesn't - in my ever so humble opinion - invite much in the way of real discussion.

I mean, you get insightful posts like "worst". Yes, thanks, how long did you think about that before you typed it? One word really can say so much, can't it?

Maybe it's me, but I'd feel like an idiot asking, "anyone not like XYZ basses?" Pick a bass, any bass, and there are sure to be people who don't, but why not ask a more insightful question?

Sorry, but it's an ignorant and useless premise, no matter what bass we're talking about.

IMO.

Hey, it's a public forum: part information, part entertainment - In what ratio? You should decide, and be able to distinguish between the two.

A thread like this, just like MANY others here, surely is useless, but it's entertaining --so it has got a purpose.

That's how I see it. As long as people respect each other.

bovinehost sure gets worked up any time anybody says anything bad about EB/MM, and that sure is entertaining.

Read this whole thread...very interesssting Hogan!! I understand how Mr. Bovinehost feels. These are his children people are talking about. Red headed stepchild notwithstanding, it might be polite to show a little discretionary respect....heck, you might need him someday for valuable information. I own an EB Sterling...reminds me of my old tripower 4 spd GTO...fast, hot and nasty and chicks love it. Made in the good ol' U.S.A. It's all good.

LOL you must be a musicman fan? ;) I have to respectfully disagree. It sounds like your feelings have been hurt.

How about this scenario - someone asks the question "do you like this widget or not?" You may respond yes or no. They follow up with why. Does that have potential to reveal useful information? Or do you think the yes reason is useful but the no reason is not? This is a bass discussion board. In what way is restricting it to positive discussion of gear useful? It's not.

I for one really dont care for the sound of the Stingray. I bought one certain I would but after using it for a few months I discovered it is a tone I just dont like. It's a sound I like by itself but not so much in a band mix. Do I really need to waste the money to find out or can I read about others who may have had the same experience and know a little more about it before I spend money?

I am a big time G&L fan. People regularly talk about how they really dont care for them or their sound doesnt work for them. Thats great, not pointless.

I find it so odd that people on this forum don't appreciate it when someone does not share their opinion. You dont like the gear I use so what you have to say about is pointless?!? LOL :D

I understand what you are saying, but how you could have read the original post and bovinehost's post and come to that conclusion is beyond me...

I am not suggesting that the OP actually invited good discussion but that good discussion can come from a question such "does anyone not like xyz" whatever it may be. Honestly I shouldnt have even posted :rollno: because I really think huge quantities of discussion on TB is pointless but OTOH if all that was suddenly eliminated there wouldnt be much discussion left over. I apologize and will get back to work now...

Frankly, I have very few feelings left. And you definitely missed my point. It's NOT about EBMM in particular. I've also seen a few "I Discovered I Hate Alembics" type threads, and I thought they were equally moronic and juvenile as far as the basic premise goes.

Lots of misinformation and half-assed opinions get passed around here and elsewhere and that's just the nature of the internet. (Say it enough and it becomes 'true.) So what? Not my job or in my best interests to try to counter the expert impressions of someone who played a Rickenbacker for three minutes once in a Guitar Center and thought it was a piece of crap. More for those of us who know how to do our own set-ups, I say.

bovinehost sure gets worked up any time anybody says anything bad about EB/MM, and that sure is entertaining.

Glad I could entertain you. I'm thinking of buying a monkey, too.

Whoah, that would be killer. Everyone posts their new bass, but nobody ever posts a monkey. That would be thread of the year.

When I was a teenager, my friend Ken had two monkeys. Eric and Todd. They weren't much fun after the initial few days. One of them simply lived to sit on the shower rod and either fling poo or, um, pleasure himself. This is while a person was in the bathroom, attempting to take care of bathroom business.

Monkeys are not good pets. That was my take.

When I was living in Peru, I really wanted a llama. I had a fairly big yard, and it had a wall around it - and really, in Lima, there either are no rules about such things or you can just pay someone 10 bucks to ignore the rules. I knew a guy who would get me one, too. Fifty dollars! My own freaking llama! I was going to name him Carl.

My boss got wind of it, though, and was having none of it. And you can't sneak a llama around.

I saw a guy with a llama on a MOTORCYCLE once, too.
