I use an EB bass, and i'm not offended by this thread or anything, I just find it strange that people don't have anything better to do (and that I'm replying too, but i'm home sick today, so meh).

Now *there's* something I've never had to deal with. I sometimes think that Aussies are the toughest people on Earth, just because they can survive on an island where every living thing is designed to kill people.

A friend of my Da's was killed when he drove around a bend at speed and hit a 600 kg moose, though.

And I don't like Musicman basses, though I think it might have more to do with my having waited 9 months for one before switching my money to a Godin than anything else. I also didn't like the weight of any of the ones I tried out. And the single-pup thing gave me a hard time when it came to getting a really wide range of sounds out of it. Now that there are two-pup models I think I might be ready to give 'em another chance. Oh, and I love that blue sparkle finish like nothing else...

The 2008 Stingrays now have the Alinco magnets in the PU's as well as a rumoured "updated" preamp.

I just took delivery of one of the 2008 limited SR5HH and it's a vintage sounding machine. Lower overall ouput but much more even and warmer!

Sweet. Now I can get a back up to my 96 SR5 or would that be get a new one and make my current a back up? Black on black with rose wood is classy, but I want a little more flash on the next one.

I believe he is talking about the Stingray 5's. My 2006 Stingray 4 has alnico pickups.

Then again, I've heard some MM basses live that have sounded awesome but I can't get them to work with me.

I've played loads of MM basses and have never got on with any of them. Last night however I went to see a friend of mine play; it was the first time I'd seen him using his Stingray. He was using a Markbass LMK and 2x Aguilar GS112s and his sound was superb. It also sounded completely unlike the "classic" scooped Stingray tone; it was very round, full, fat, smooth, with no "glass" whatsoever. Sounded like the best Fender I'd ever heard. Unfortunately I just can't seem to get a decent sound out of them IME.

Too often people don't get on with a bass and just dismiss it but it's all about the interaction of the bass, the player, and the bass rig. I've had people try my gear and it sounded terrible but it works for me. Likewise for others.
