I pulled my Zephyr (current, one-tube version) out of the rack and spent a little time, today, trying it with a few different tubes. In there, to start, was a JJ ECC83 (short plate). I also tried a TAD (Tube Amp Doctor) ECC83 WA and a Tung-Sol 12AX7. Nothing fancy.

I found each to sound and feel noticeably different with the same control settings -- and found myself dialing the preamp in a little differently to get the best (to my ears) out of each tube -- but found that I could get (largely but not completely overlapping) results I liked with all of them.

I was playing my modified Fender Power Jazz Bass Special (same bass as in the clips a few posts up), with roundwound strings, with the Zephyr's bright switch engaged, through an Audiokinesis Hathor 1203 cab.

I ordered the Oracle with an NOS tube. It sounds so good I feel no need to roll in other tubes. I haven't even checked to see what tube was installed.

...it's just plain perfection with my newish P-Bass with TI Flats. It's just that sound, classic, a little wool, thump, and low end for weeks.

Wisdom.^^^ Sub "G&L LB-100 fretless with Daddario nickel rounds" and the rest just saves me typing.

That's interesting to know! I'll have to make time to try some different tubes now. I have quite the assortment of 12A?7 variants on hand.

Awesome! glad to see an Arkham group up and running. I've know Micah a few years now, gone through a Zephyr, Oracle and now a custom job. There's many builders out there doing great work, but the attention to detail, reliability and performance has kept me a loyal fan from the beginning.

The latest project, is almost done. I'll go into more detail when it's in my hands, but rest assured it will sound good. This idea spawned from me being inpatient, and always super interested in the Hughes and Kettner BATT/Bassmaster, Fryette's GP/DI, Broughton's Power Stage, and the SWR I.O.D.

Pretty simple, it has an line out, Headphone out and speaker out - can't wait!!

For those asking about the oracle and tube rolling, I did a video tube rolling the Bullet, and then put the RCA longplate in the oracle when I got it. Didn't get a before and after on the oracle roll, but it made a huge difference.

Burned the midnight oil last night recording for the new single. Signal path: Skjold Design Guitars bass into the avalon U5 then split with one path clean to interface then the other into the Arkham Sound oracle and then to the avalon 727 for dual signals of clean and tube on tube. @Arkham Sound always gets compliments from the engineer.
Tone was one of those "this is the sound in my head finally captured" moments.

Recorded through Skjold 6 string bass into Avalon then split to interface and second signal path to Oracle then to Avalon 737 tube preamp then to interface. Mix is about 60% clean, 40% tube stack. @Arkham Sound

In the middle of the pandemic I had Micah build me a custom power amp - standard Arkham preamp using 12AX7 + KT88 run Ultra Linear. Nothing else compares since receiving it.
