AudioKinesis 112 Cab

Hey guys. I'm on the road (in the great state of Texas!) until Sunday. Just checking emails, etc. and saw that LeCover has already shipped the padded cover I spec'd for the Thunderchild.

So, I'll check it out when I get home Sunday and post up a pic on Monday with ordering details (assuming I didn't mess up the measurements!).

Man, that was quick for a custom cover!

Have a great rest of the week and weekend. I'll be dipping in and out of TB when I get chance!

sheesh! already with the weight! you guys want tone or what? duke, thank you for also building a man-sized cab for us folks who do it bigger ;)

small suggestion you can take or leave...you need a logo on there. hey man, build your brand. i do like the totally industrial look, though. i'm a big tolex and grillcloth dude, but there's something about that horn on there that lets people know you're not there to waste their time with crap. i've always believed a paper cone was necessary to get that sound like i like, but it's really not, especially with the old school crossover setting.

hey ken, got anything with the crossover on the 3.5k position? what really got me with the horn was how gentle and natural the rolloff sounded. it was bright enough for vocals at full range imho, but it was this gentle kind of bright that wasn't grating or annoying. i can't wait to hear how this crossover worked out. i really have to hand it to duke for taking an idea that i'm sure seemed far fetched at first and running with it. i wish i had that recording i did with vt distortion on the prototype with me so i could post them. once you get those upper freqs out of it, the distortion tones are fantastic through the horn. and the horn smoothes it off enough to where i think some will like distortion full range as well.

oh yeah, i should mention again that i helped beta test the bigger cab. so you can take what i say with a grain of salt, but it will blow minds.

Perhaps the horn's throat is dampened so that it's inert? Did you give it the 'knuckle test'?

Given that the most striking visual aspect of the Thunder Child is its large HF horn, and considering how Mr. LeJeune employs similar devices in a number of his designs, perhaps the T.C.'s horn flare would be a good location for a stylized rendition of Duke's name, or for better visibility, his initials.

I was afraid someone would suggest a logo... and dangit, it was JimmyM! His suggestions tend to carry a fair amount of weight with me. Unfortunately I hate spending money and energy on crap like that, so I've been putting it off, and will continue to do so for a while anyway.

When Jimmy was beta-testing the 212, he was hearing things and figuring out things about what my cab was doing that caught me by surprise. He really has very good ears. He also relieved some of my apprehensions, as by then I knew I could trust what his ears were telling him.

The gentle tweeter rolloff switch was indeed Jimmy's idea; I apologize for not giving credit where credit was due before now. Thank you very much, Jimmy! The switch was not as straightforward to implement as I thought it would be, but I'm happy with the way it turned out. Maybe we can call it the "Jimmy Switch"??

Good call on suggesting the "knuckle test", MIJ-VI. I'm pretty sure my horn will pass.

Perhaps a logo design contest is in order?

The prize could be something commensurate...
