Hey Duke,

I was going to ask this in pm but figured it'd be something other folks were interested in. Do you have a list of your forthcoming/available bass related products?

I've heard of or seen:
112
112AF
115
115AF
mystery 1212 that Jimmy tried out

Okay the Thunderchild 112 and 112AF are available, with the 115 and 115AF forthcoming.

The mystery 1212 is still in the pipeline; like everything else, it has been slowed down by the rising price of neodymium magnets. I won't bore you with the details, but it has been harder to acquire neo magnet woofers than you might think, especially custom ones, and it's getting worse instead of better. At one point back in the "good old days" (early 2011), I was planning to use yet another custom neo woofer in the mystery 1212, but now I will be using the stock Kappalite 3012LF in that model, which hopefully will still be available for a while. The stock 3012LF is a little bit less efficient that I would like, but on the other hand we'll get really good low end grunt - that's the upside of the tradeoff.

I was also going to do a little "upscale coffee house cab" based on the Faital Pro 8PR200, but that is on hold; I think it makes more sense for me to explore the world of ceramics at this time.

So I have three ceramic-magnet woofer projects on the drawing board, slated to use off-the-shelf drivers (which greatly reduces the size of the financial hurdles I have to clear to bring them to market).

One of them is a 115 kit (which probably will not include the wood, but there's a Parts Express knock-down box that can be adapted for those who aren't up for doing the woodwork themselves).

Another is a two-piece system that consists of a pole-mount mini cab and a subwoofer. It can also be used as a small-venue PA system, or a keyboards cab. Haven't figured out all the details of this system yet.

Another possibility is a ceramic 212, which would be considerably less expensive than its neo woofer counterpart.

Not directly related, but at some point I also want to offer a guitar cab that addresses the "on-axis icepick" issue plauging most guitar cabs.

The "bigger 112" with the 3012LF is a cab I call the MRL, pronounced "Merle", which stands for Mult-Role Loudspeaker. Basically, it's one of my home audio designs in a chunky prosound-style box with the crossover modified a bit for higher power handling. I haven't campaigned it because it's too close to being a nEarful, something the world doesn't need one more of. Of course there's the risk that my neo 1212 with the 3012LFs might be accused of being a nEarful as well, but I think there will be a clearer distinction there.

Rpsands, I've seen you come up with some very interesting ideas and suggestions... like, using a 10" guitar speaker for the top end, paired with a big woofer. Barefaced is now doing something conceptually similar: a 610 where one of the 10's is a guitar speaker. And I think you mentioned line sources at some point. Anyway, PLEASE feel free to make suggestions (you or anyone else) - if you (or anyone else) see a glaring hole in the market that needs to be filled, by all means post about it, here or wherever. I may not be able to do it, but perhaps there is someone else who can.

That's sort of how the Thunderchild came about: People posting on TalkBass that they were looking for a lightweight cab that did this and this, and me deciding that was a niche I could compete in.

Sweet man. Thanks for the update :)

Yeah, my "line array gimmick cab" idea was using an 8BG51 and a guitar 8" driver set up so you could stack them in a pseudo-line array (ending up with an 8x8 with 4 bg51's and 4 padded guitar drivers).

Nice thing is it's cheaper because guitar 8's are crazy cheap. Not nice thing is the crossover is complex because of being side by side (believe it gets very complex--has to be quite steep and quite low).

Barefaced's 6x10 is super exciting. Think it could really change a lot of people's minds about engineered designs. Kind of like yours is rapidly changing people's ideas about pattern control, crossovers and horns.

Yeah, the staircase really makes it! :)

Quite accidental actually....but probably the best pic I've ever taken now that you mention it.....lol......I ran out of room in my den (I think it's time to start selling some gear) and I'd been having trouble getting the cabs up the stairs after a long gig and a hurting back and left them there one night and decided that's where they would reside from now on......now the Tots are so light that I won't have any trouble keeping them where they should be stored when not in use......

Beautiful form factor, and I love Duke's neo-industrial esthetics!
How do they sound???????????

only got to try them out at a very low volume when they arrived on Tuesday morning but I'll be taking them to a jam next week and will see how they do.....so far so good....they sound even better than the MB rig and that's a nice little rig.....they look fantastic with that LMII on top and at the low volume I tried them at I didn't need to goose the bass to get a nice low thump and I can just imagine what would happen if I did....I think the windows would shake and my neigbours would be quite upset.....lol......

Okay the Thunderchild 112 and 112AF are available, with the 115 and 115AF forthcoming.

I would think if you focus on the TC112 and TC115, you will have more orders than you can keep up with. That is a potent product line (with the optional 'AF' version of the 112....not sure if an AF TC115 is worth the trouble myself, given that the TC112 would cover the vast majority of DB player needs).

The TC112 can cover most gigs for most players, and my guess is, the higher output of the TC115 will cover all gigs for most players (at the cost of a bit more size and weight).

The tots look cool, but again, were created for a special reason (i.e., a player that has extreme low weight requirements). The output per pound of the TC112 is stunning, and the absolute weight is quite low and would be considered lightweight by most players.

Also, the cost increase of neo drivers (assuming Eminence doesn't screw you on your OEM version) is trivial for single driver cabs. You should just be able to pass that $50 wholesale cost through to your customers with no problem. The 410 manufacturers are kind of screwed with the neo prices, but 112 or 115... trivial IMO. I also assume, if needed, a non neo compression driver for the top end would help hold down cost will adding a trivial amount of additional weight and no noticable tonal change (just guessing there).

I agree completely. I can't imagine needing more than my TC112 and TC115 to cover my needs.

I believe that the single driver price increase is now well past the $50 mark (at least for his custom drivers), but I'll let Duke correct me if I am wrong.
