Waiting....... oh so patiently for the new Hathor 1553.... Trying to be patient anyway.
Anybody laid ears on one yet? I took the leap based on the concept.

Question- I have a first gen tc112 af (in white, y'all), which of course is 4 ohms. Can it be converted to 8 ohms simply by replacing the woofer with an 8 ohm unit? Thinking two 8 ohm 112's will do me for the rest of my days.

Yup, the crossovers are quite different, and the original 4-ohm version uses a different compression driver from the 8-ohm version.

Just a random thought, could you get better lowend with a stock 3012LF as opposed to the spec version?

Yes the stock 3012LF does go a bit lower than my 4-ohm version in a given size box. So the 8-ohm Thunderchild 112 goes a bit lower than the original 4-ohm version.

I think my 4-ohm 3012LF and the new factory 4-ohm 3012LF are pretty similar down low. They model very similar, even though the specs differ a bit.

edit: I think I changed my post while you were typing, 55... I'd mis-read your post the first time through and didn't realize you were asking about the factory 4-ohm 3012LF.

I finished up the crossover on the new version of the Thunderchild 115, which uses my new custom 15" Kappalite-based woofer. It has the "4/8 ohm" switch, and imo just enough growl in growly mode to give it a bit of character.

The Hathor 1553 (same new woofer) might end up as the Hathor 1505... that rear-firing 3" mid I wanted to incorporate is pulling the impedance curve down just a little bit too low for comfort, especially if I want to be able to incorporate the "4/8 ohm" switch.

Mike Arnopol, among others, has been telling me for some time now that I need to do a Hathor 212. So that is now officially in the pipeline. Two Kappalite 3012LFs, a single 6" cone mid, and maybe a tweeter with an on/off switch. Same size box as the Thunderchild 212, but a few pounds heavier.

Also working on a little cab for upright bass, as Mike has kicked my butt in that market with his little MAS 45 cab, and I gotta try to make a comeback.

By the way, my wide body TC115AF with the new 15" Hathor driver is unbelievable. The mids sound awesome when they're set to "grindy." This cab is a veritable Swiss Army knife of perfect sounds.

Yesterday, I got to play @Marial's ThunderChild 212. I liked it quite a lot, and may pick it up if it is still available when I get the cash. It didn't seem too terribly different than my TC118 - but I believe it will go a tad louder. It'll be neat to have two ThunderChilds

What would be the difference between the hathor 212 and tc212?

The TC's use very high quality HF drivers & wave guides.
The Hathor's use paper cone drivers - iirc, 3" to 5" together with special rear wave chambering to openings to the top & sides of the cabinet.
Duke also has switch controlled crossovers that make the most of good driver selection & cabinet design & tuning (with port plugs for even more tunable low end options).
Please correct me if I'm wrong on any points.
