The TC's use very high quality HF drivers & wave guides.
The Hathor's use paper cone drivers - iirc, 3" to 5" together with special rear wave chambering to openings to the top & sides of the cabinet.
Duke also has switch controlled crossovers that make the most of good driver selection & cabinet design & tuning (with port plugs for even more tunable low end options).
Please correct me if I'm wrong on any points.

I love the switches on the 1203 cabs! I played an outdoor gig last night, it was with my acoustic folk/singer/songwriter type gig. I was playing a P bass through a TFB550B into one 1203 cab. I had a little too much mid grind going on so I just flipped the switches and after appropriate EQ I was set. That gave me a smooth, clean sound with plenty of lows without boom, and enough mids to project.

Those switches just add extra versatility to an already great cab!

I gigged last night with my Mesa subway d-800 and my TC112 v1. The Thunderchild never ceases to amaze me. Duke you really hit it out of the park with the v1 thunder child.

Combined with the Mesa, my tone was so articulate and clean. Every detail of my playing shined right through, even the few clams too lol! Very punchy with tight bottom support, and my slap tone was killing. I even had the cab on my cart on an amp stand and I still had plenty of bottom.

I often think about picking up another one in the classifieds, but I already have two Hathor 1203's as well, which I adore too. Especially when I use the 1203 with the tc112v1. The thunder child rocks!!!!

By the way, my wide body TC115AF with the new 15" Hathor driver is unbelievable. The mids sound awesome when they're set to "grindy." This cab is a veritable Swiss Army knife of perfect sounds.

When you say "wide body"... well, what exactly do you mean? Horizontal orientation?

Hathor will get mid grind better than any other cab I've played - Baer would be another one in the same ballpark.

Mike Arnopol, among others, has been telling me for some time now that I need to do a Hathor 212. So that is now officially in the pipeline. Two Kappalite 3012LFs, a single 6" cone mid, and maybe a tweeter with an on/off switch. Same size box as the Thunderchild 212, but a few pounds heavier.

How about ditch the tweeter and have a 6" and a 3"? Or a pair of 3". To me Hathor = paper cone = big win.

When you say "wide body"... well, what exactly do you mean? Horizontal orientation?

At one point the TC115 was available in a differently proportioned cabinet which was wider - internal volume was close to the same, IIRC.

Which driver is this? It replaced the original? And which setting do you consider "grindy"? Thanks!

Speaking of "new designs": A different thing but, what i thought may be my "dream standalone cab": a TC 112 with the mid drivers and chambers of the hathor instead of the horn. I own a TC 112v1 and sometimes miss the cutting mids a little bit but like the low end extension of it very much (apart from everything else). Haven't heard, played the Hathor in Reality though, only heard in clips here, but as i heard and read it doesn't extend as low as the TC; (is smaller, lighter, more portable, tighter (?) therefore, of course)
As i understood, a "growly-switch" on the newer version of the TC was a step in that direction.
Just an idea, if not already mentioned before. May also be to much, "messing up the lines", but thats what i thought.

Yesterday, I got to play @Marial's ThunderChild 212. I liked it quite a lot, and may pick it up if it is still available when I get the cash. It didn't seem too terribly different than my TC118 - but I believe it will go a tad louder. It'll be neat to have two ThunderChilds

Probably has a smaller footprint too.

I like the the way that Duke posts specs for his Cabs.
The 1855 is -4@ 46hz.. My other interest is the TC118 which is -1@ 62hz.. That's pretty good ,, and knowing the quality and engineering that he puts into the cabs those numbers very useful.

I can only speculate but If he measured his cabs the way the typical Cab makers are doing it these days .. what would it look like..
Dont most cab makers embellish and use a -10 point to show their cabs??

I like the fact that Duke is truthful and meticulous about the way he implements all aspects of the TC and Hathor.
And he is now local for me..
I am unloading a bunch of stuff in coming weeks. . The 1855 still looks great but the new TC118 has me dreaming

Yes. -10dB is the measurement I see most commonly used to define "usable frequency range."

Yeah the super powerful Large form Tc cabs are appealing. I decided to go the modular route and will have a TC112 and a Hathor 12. I being able to tote 1 25 cab around that does the job most of the time with its brother waiting in the trunk if needed.

I definitely trust Duke's numbers. In fact, they match our measured numbers quite closely.

I believe Dukes number too.. . he is the only one that shows TRUE numbers..

Other cab makers show 41hz but @ -10 db... I wonder what it would show if they used Dukes numbers? I really wish i knew.. Im not great at formulas. .But there must be some sort of graphic where one could calculate where a commercial 41 hz cab would be on a -1 db scale.

Yeah, I was surprised at that. I was also surprised how much heavier the TC212 was. I can one-hand my TC118... the TC212, not so much. Love these cabs though. I didn't get to even play with the switches too much on the back of yours, or try opening the ports. But, I play my TC118 plugged up.
