That does it! I’m upgrading my beloved TC112. ...but no rush, Duke . The TC is still my number 1 (5 yrs now and it's not going anywhere). I wonder how the two would stack?

I got a Changeling this week and used it tonight for the first time. Outdoor gig with PA support and running it with a Quilter BB 800.
It absolutely killed and I can't wait to play with this thing again this week in rehearsal! I also will be picking up a second to use a stack and watch nearby structures cave in under a wall of velvety thunder.

I'm unduly proud of the Changelings, their weirdness feeds my inner geek, and I'm thrilled that they also seem to work pretty well for electric bass.

Sorry I have been so scarce here lately guys, I wrecked my left shoulder a couple of weeks ago lifting something heavy up high, couldn't raise my left arm until a couple of days ago. Finally can do some exercises, which help a lot - now it no longer goes "clunk" when I raise it.

So I've been concentrating on still filling orders, obviously everything has been taking me longer...

Anyway I've fallen behind (I guess that would actually be "behinder"), but the shoulder is on the mend and I'll be picking up speed (not that "speed" was ever my middle name).

Mexicanyella explained it well. The cheater circuit buys a little bit more top end at the expense of an impedance dip. But the dip isn't high enough in frequency, and is benign enough, that it's not a problem for the amp.

I am curious as to whether the shape change [of the Birdhaus 48] was made to achieve a different sound, or in response to a form factor problem (I said form factor!!!) or what.

Mainly form factor. The internal volume of your version is imo sufficient to get decent low end, and from what I understand on a tight stage cabinet depth is the most critical dimension.

My weakness for doing overlycomplex polydirectional cabs goes back to my high-end audio background. If done right, a second array of drivers can enhance timbre and even increase the apparent room size with no degradation of clarity. Not that these are really applicable to electric bass.

But in some cases, there is more than one target you might want to aim some mids and highs at (the lows are already omnidirectional). Obviously the audience is high on the list. But maybe you need to hear yourself clearly, or maybe the drummer would like to be as much in synch with you as you are with him, or maybe your bandmates really dig your groove even if they don't "need" to clearly hear it. And if it's improv jazz night, then maybe they do need to clearly hear what you're doing.

Your Thunderchild is actually about 1/2" deeper. And, I've switched to a different kind of corner protector. So you'll have to switch to the new corner protectors for your Thunderchild, then they should physically stack pretty well.

Impedance could be an issue, assuming your Thunderchild is a 4-ohm version. If it's an 8-ohm version, no problem.

No acoustic issues - the won't "fight" with one another. Well not unless they're trying to impress a girl cab.

Hah! ...We saw a girl cab the other day. But the TC112 is mature enough to mind its manners .

Since I have a TC115AF for larger rooms I'm more likely to use the C112T to replace the Thunderchild than I am to stack them. The gigs I play these days seem to fit either one or the other cab quite nicely, without needing both. That solves the impedance issue. Can I assume the sensitivity of the TC and the Changeling 112 are similar?

Only once did I stack the TC112 & the TC115AF; the 112 sideways on top fit perfectly. I used 2 GK MB500's to drive them at 4 ohms each. It was awesome and kinda fun - way overkill for the gig ...but I couldn't resist !

I’ve got 3 of Dukes cabs.
Of all the booteeky cabs I’ve had lately, leading up to the AK’s, (Baer, Barefaced, Bergs, DNA [all fantastic in their own right]), Duke’s cabs are my favourites.
Tone per square inch/weight ratio just kills.
They’ll be the last ones standing in my music room after I’m dead and gone.

Man, I'd be up for being shop monkey for awhile...but the commute might be kind of rough...600 miles or so, was it? Maybe if I swap cars with my wife for awhile. She has a Prius. It gets more MPG than my Caravan.

Very unlikely to happen. Nobody in their right mind would work for my wages. I enjoy it so it seldom degenerates into "work" to me. But I don't think my business model would work if it weren't for that - I put in a lot of "overtime".

What will help significantly is when I can get boards cut on a CNC machine again. Unfortunately that is on hold for a while. I was going to finance the first batch (ten sheets's worth) from the second and final installment on a custom, highly specialized, six-piece home audio speaker system. When the system was finished I was unable to contact the buyer so I did a search on the internet. Found his obituary. He had been in a motorcycle accident. So let's just say things are now complicated. Anyway that put the CNC deal on hold.
