i'm awaiting an H1506, too. realistic delivery circa xmas & i'll give Studio Slips the measurements upon arrival. i like the basic black padded model like i got for my 1203s.

As thrilling as all this padded cover talk is...... I would like to know more about the 1506, and what you are hoping it will give you over your 1203s.

FWIW i play Ps & Js in a rock/blues/rockabilly sort of milieu. back to practicing...

I am brand new to AK and the H1506 will be my first cab. I had a similar rationale: one cab to do it all! I might supplement with an H1203 down the road for truly the "rig of rigs". 1203 for small/med shows, 1506 for med/large (most) shows, and both for outdoor or where I need to have ridiculous volume. My biggest concern was 1506 vs 1533, but I love my mids and think I made the right choice here.

Second time using the Changeling 212 on a stage.

I'm new to the Audiokinesis world, I admit - currently am weighing up options between a Barefaced Big Twin II or one of the Audiokinesis line. Not sure if a Hathor or Changeling will be the right way to go, but I'm thinking a 212 will be a better choice than a 112 for me. I'd like one cab to "do it all" (as much as possible) and I feel like I'd rather have one 212 than 2 x 112's for a larger show.

What cabs have you owned before your Changeling 212?

Before AK, I had up to 3 Baer ML112’s at any time, and a Berg AE210. That was my shift from 410’s. Happy times continue.

I can't say enough about the Birdhaus 4x6. It's great for small tight stages with either Double Bass or Electric Bass. There's a suprizing amount of low end for a box this small.
You can put the cabinet very close to the wall and still get a great sound. Easy to transport at it's weight.

I agree, I mainly use if for upright, but was doing some weird electric almost free jazz and would put it on top of the other two cabs so everyone on stage could here the bass and if I got bored and vamping on G minor for 10 minutes and moved up to A minor and they could change or not. But the cab has many uses and still haven't explored all of them.

That was my approach, to have something closer to a "do all" in a single cab. I liked the Hathor 1203 so much, and I wanted the 112/212/312 options.

I opted for the Changeling with the 212 build because, "Why not?" I think the mid-chamber porting on the Hathor does enough for close-quarters monitoring. But it's fun to have those rear firing mids. I can't comment much on them, because I haven't switched them on/off during rehearsals or shows (only two so far).

This evening I'll use the 312 stack at a venue where we send only vibraphone through the PA. I probably don't need all of it, but it sounds so good. (And there is parking in front of the venue.)

I still like the sound of just the 1203 or the 312 stack better than the 212 on its own. I don't know why. It might have more to do with the variety of rehearsal rooms than the cabs.

I definitely liked carrying the single GB 212 more than the two Berg 210s. (The 212 weighed less than one of the 210s.) But it wasn't much of a hassle moving from the GB 212 to the two Baer cabs.

I think a regular Hathor 1203 with a Changeling 12T would be great if you think two 12s is the most you'll ever need. Then you have a bit of variety between your pair.

That’s the route I took. With a Changeling 1533 for extra variety.

Prior to that, the timeline included a Bergantino IP112ER+HT112ER, then two Bergantino HS210s, then a Genz-Benz NX2-212T (when I started trying to go lighter).

It would be great to hear your take on the comparison of these cabinets and the Audiokinesis. They are all top-notch gear and not many people have spent time with so many of them. If that's not appropriate for this post, I'd welcome a PM.

My own limited experience was that I owned a HT112ER and was perfectly happy with it until I heard the TC115. It's been long enough that I can't remember why though.

Duke's been responding to my emails (the poor guy) so I'm sure we'll get to a solution in the end.

What makes what I want to do a little more complicated, is I'm trying to look at the idea of running a very clean amp rig on stage (think Quilter BB800 into a TC), and use a Helix-series modeller to run a full amp/cab sim feed into the cab on stage.

I think if I wasn't trying to go so clean, it'd be a simpler choice - so likely the Hathor/Changeling 1533 or, yep, two small, different 112's might be the way to go. Bonus is the smaller cabs are cheaper, so it might save me on freight/import duties and make the whole exercise more affordable. And, gives me a chance to try an Audiokinesis cab to see if it really is my thing.

I just can't see a gig on my long term horizons where I'd need anything more than 212. More than that, and I'd be running IEM's.

Has anyone tried combining a Thunderchild and Hathor/Changeling in their rig?

I have limited exposure to the Genzler 12-3 slant and a lot of experience with the TC112, although I haven't heard them side by side. I have not heard the Hathor or Changeling. Based on users' descriptions of the Hathor/Changeling cabs being more grindy/mid-forward than the TC112, I think the 12-3SLT is a lot closer to the TC112 (smooth, balanced, tight but strong low end). So if you look at tonal comparisons of the Thunderchild series vs. the Hathor/Changeling series, you'll get a pretty good idea of how the 12-3SLT compares to the Hathor/Changelings.

I hope that makes some sense!
