Baer Amplification Megathread!

...Edit: Also, in the case of the Berg, the Baer, and the Thunderchild, there is no 8/4 option... so, the impedance is what it is, and hence the efficiency and impedance differences become (IMO) a valid part of the comparison process. Again, just IMO there.

I think this is one area where Duke and myself took a different approach. With the 4 ohm TC112, Duke was trying to provide a single cabinet solution that would let you open up one of these micro heads and use all your available power into one small cab that would actually be able to handle it. A very good approach with a 3012LF based cab. (Duke, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong)

My approach was to deliver a cab that would handle the amp's 8 ohm power rating with good sensitivity, figuring that would sufice on most small to medium gigs. For players that need more volume on a larger gig, a stack of 2 ML112's presents a 4 ohm load to your amp and will put out a considerable amount of volume.

upright bass opinions please!!!
Haven't heard it with DB yet, but I'm working on that. I did hear Jay Terrien play a viola through the Valkyrie/ ML112 rig at NAMM and it was very cool indeed. He commented that he was hearing things in his playing he hadn't heard before. I take that as a good thing. Oh, and Steve Adelson stopped by with his Chapman Stick and was very impressed with that set up as well, so the cab does seem to work quire well for instruments other than electric bass.

I don't at all speak for Duke, but yes, I believe his goal was to provide "the most your little micro head could deliver" for best "bang/portability."

Roger, doesn't the Valkyrie do 2 ohms?
(so, your cabs could have been 4 ohms, but, that would limit use of two with other heads that don't support 2 ohms...?)

I don't think a 4ohm version is really that necessary with the ML112. As Roger stated, Duke's cab is a bit more closely based on the 3012LF, and that driver takes some power. With the higher efficiency of Roger's cab, I found the volume between the 4ohm TC112 and the 8ohm ML112 very similar.

Also, given the wattage spec of Roger's head, a 4ohm ML112 would not be optimal nor needed to get full performance out of his amp relative to the capabilies of the speaker, and his head is also capable of driving two of them to full output at 4ohms, further allowing a third one for a 2.67 ohm load if walls need to be knocked down.

The 3015'HO' and 3012'HO' drivers seem to crank along quiet nicely with 250-350 watts.

In a recent conversation with Duke he described it as having the best "Bang Per Pound". I'm thinking of a patent on the BPP acronym :)

The Valkyrie is 2 ohm capable, but when I really thought about the players that are likely to buy the ML112, the word "portability" kept coming to mind. With portability a big factor for these customers, it was safe to assume that these players are probably using micro heads and would not necessarily be interested in the Valkyrie as their amplifier. As most of the micro heads are 4 ohm capable, It seemed that a more modular setup was the way to go with this product. One ML112 for the small to medium gigs and two ML112's for those bigger gigs that need a good amount of volume.

For anyone gigging the Valkyrie, you now have the option of using up to four ML112's, which is a truly frightening rig indeed.

It's really helpful, and I 'really' like it when guys can talk about each other's products without feeling like they need to convince someone not to buy the other product.

Very refreshing, and 'classy'.

Duke's a good guy and we've talked on numerous occasions. I've also had people ask me about the ML112 and once I learned what they were after, recommended that they try the TC112, as it might suit their needs better. Yes, we are competitors, but friendly competitors.

Howdy Roger;
Being the cab addict I currently am, and being the doubler I am, and having several other cabs I like pretty well.........
I was wondering if you have a trial period, or a return policy or something? The website seemed unclear on that.

thx

I'm daydreaming/fantasizing about this.

I love 10s
I own a couple of AE410 (different locations) and a Acme 210, but I'm craving for a tight 12.

Curious how 2 ML112's would do up against 1 AE410
