If anyone is anywhere near Western NC, a buddy is selling a pair of S15BD's for a SONG. Lord I wish I had the space or the need for them, I love those big 15 boxes. pm me if you want me to put you in touch.

Kind of an odd, unforeseen situation happened last night... I'm hoping this is an easily resolved polarity/cabling issue.

So, because I had two gigs yesterday, I had two cabs and an amp I wouldn't ordinarily use all together.

Amp: Acoustic Image Clarus 2, has two SpeakON outputs, can handle a 2 ohm load.

Cabs: Bag End S10-D with a SpeakON and two 1/4" jacks. Also has banana plug. I usually use this cab with this amp for upright or small room acoustic gigs, practice etc. I connect it with a SpeakON-to-SpeakON. Works great.

Other Cab: Bag End S15X-D, with two SpeakON and two 1/4" jacks, of course the banana plugs too. I usually use this cab with a different rig, connecting it to a Mesa D-800 using a 1/4" speaker cable and SpeakON adapter. (I know...) When used in tandem wiith my S15-D it's absolutely devastating.

So I planned to just hook both of these cabs to the Acoustic Image amp yesterday evening... the S10-D was fine, but the S15X-D would not work using the SpeakON plugs, and I can't imagine why.

Bear in mind, I didn't have time to fiddle around with it last night... I simply daisy-chained from the S10-D to the S15X-D with a 1/4 speaker cable and ran offa' one channel with no problem. Still, I need to figure this one out for future modular purposes.

Anyone got an idea? Admittedly, I haven't ever used the SpeakONs on that S15X-D before... so it could be they are unhooked for some reason, but why? I'll play with it all some more, do some testing and report back, but any advice appreciated. :thumbsup:


*I did verify both channels on the amp are good.

*Also checked both SpeakON cables against knowns.

The speakons on your s15xd use the 2+/2- instead of the usual 1+/1- terminals.

Some jack plates are selectable inside but most I've seen are not. It will say selectable on the plate if it is.

Otherwise you need to rewire a 4 pole speakon end or bag end does sell new jack plates with the combo speakon inputs with the usual 1+/1- wiring.

I did, to get through the gig, but it was a hincky-looking mess of cobbled together pieces I was lucky enough to have in the bag. :laugh:

Having read through the thread BB linked, it looks like my best option is to avail myself of the advice the OP got and just have a cable made up especially for using this cab whenever I specifically want to use it this certain way. Simple enough... if I keep it marked.

Oh yea, if the speakon that you used is a 4 pole, you can easily rewire it to 2+/2- , just be sure to mark it so it's easy to identify:thumbsup:

Second time today BB, 'preciate it! We got a pretty good pro audio shop here in Roanoke Invalid Link Removed ...they can fix me up with one.

Hmm. Never tried my old WalkAbout with the Bag Ends... I need to do that. I prefer to keep it docked in the Scout 15 combo-cab, but it'd be fun to try. Most of the time I'm using either a Mesa D-800 or an Acoustic Image Clarus II with the Baggies.
