ok.. I just can't read anymore. Eyes are starting to hurt.
MY pet peeves;
1) GUITAR CENTER.
I mean really??
2) Musicians' "friend"
Dude, they are still guitar center. they ship from the same werehouse.
3) Bandmates who bring friends to the practice space and let their friends play gear belonging to other members of the band.
4) Bands that constantly bitch about how much they don't make at shows becuase the bar owners/promoters are crooks.
5) Bands that don't take your advice when you show them exactly how to make frak tons of money selling merch properly.
6) Advertising companies buying up all the radio stations.
There was a time in this country when the local radio station gave a damn about the local scene. Rare occasion these days.
7) Venues taxing your merch sales.
8) Musicians who think that you have to have the "double marshall full stack, double les paul, ampeg classic 810 stack, fender bass tone" in order to sound good. (yes they do, but there are other ways bro)

10) twenty-something couples with 4.5 children.

Guitarists who have too much bottom end cranked up and just cut me completley out of my own sonic space and then i get blammed for being too loud!
Drummers who play straight when its a funk or swing tune.
old dirty people who are "musicians" who think they know everything about audio engineering and music, but why are they hanging around a skanky pub?
People screaming really loud in my ears when i'm on stage.
People who think bass is the "failed guitarists" instrument.

bassists that can only play with a pick (Come on, its a style of playing, Ive done it before, it works good for some songs, but not all of them. your just furthering the stereotype that bass players are failed guitarists)
metalhead drummers that insist every song needs to have a pounding double bass beat to it.
tonedeaf singers/people who just cant sing but dont know it
guitarists that are never convinced their loud enough
guitar center shredders cranking their oh so awesome rendition of (insert metallica song here)
active pickups on guitar
disney made teen stars.
autotuners *shivers*

Orianthi (or as i call her hannah mon halen. watch the video and youll understand.) the music video to "according to you" plays where I work every 45 minutes.
the fact that the most talked about thing in the news the last several things has been tiger woods sex life.

I'm with you on that one! I worked with a guitar player who played in DADGAD and had a very booming tone, and I got the blame. They kept saying that it must be me. I played the third set with my bass volume turned off and nobody noticed..
About the plectrum thing. I usually use a plek for most things and save my nails for guitar (which I don't use a plek)
Try playing a 12 string bass for an extended time finger style and see how you go....
Who cares if someone uses a pick or not, if the sound comes out good does it matter?

I've heard them all. They aren't funny anymore. If you really want to impress me, find a drummer joke I HAVEN'T heard in my 28 years of playing. Honestly, they aren't funny anymore. All I am asking is for some creativity in finding a NEW drummer joke.

I agree with you on the pick thing, who cares if a bass player uses a pick? The guitar was originally played fingerstyle, Classical and Flamenco still are among other styles, does that mean that any guitarist that uses a pick is doing it wrong? So I say if ya want to play bass with a pick ,then by all means do !

Referring to a Bassist as "Bass-Player"...
I'm new to the bass world, is this wrong? A bassist does "play" a bass no?
There is a magazine called Bass Player as well as Guitar Player, If I said something wrong, I aplogize.
You aren't wrong. Some people prefer the superior sounding 'bassist'.

Thats it! Once you put you have put technique and method in a box you have instantly limited the instrument and player.
Slapping a bass would be a dirty word instead af a cool way to play (that I can't do anyway).
Bassists are meant to be the opposite of narrowminded.
Amy Humphreys of "Clatter" has the strangest method of playing (and probably impossible to mimic)
but she does so much with it..
Geddy and his waggle finger thing too, is unique.
Stanley Clarke's harpsichord picking method is one of a kind.
Squire's harmonic pinch, The Ox's typewriter and Les Claypool's kami kazi aproach to the instrument is mind numbing.
Even Joe Osbourne's clean click dererves its own chapter.
And thats just talking about the plucking hand...
Please guys and gals, never put technique in a box. If it sounds good, it's good!
