Bass solos are like Drum solos. Most people don’t know a good one from a bad one.
Christian McBride on Summer Soft, solo begins at 3:00. It's been a transcription project of mine for a year, at low intensity when I have nothing else to work on, I still can't get the velocity quite right.
Richard Bona on Song For Bilbao, solo starts at 4:50, for this once I don't dream of ever reaching this amount of velocity, along with the musicality.
heres one i grew up with. it was one of the tapes in my dads van and we'd listen to it over and over on road trips. absolutely monster playing throughout. zoom to 6:00 to hear Tony Levin killing it and stay tuned for Gadd's response. just awesome

At 1:54 one of the best solos of Victor Wooten ever (in my opinion) followed by an equally amazing solo by Edgar Meyer on the double bass. The tone, phrasing, note choice, musicality and the fluidness of their playing always amazes me (Edgar: how he opens the solo is legendary, and the stuff in the higher register wuuuuut). I like the air in the sound of Wooten's fretless bass too. The recording sounds like a band in a studio (which it probably is), which make it even better.
