bassist confessional.

Theory geek - I know more then anyone else in the band.
Tone freak - Most definitely!
Understand time better than my drummer - Sad but true.
Bit overweight - Yup.
Goatee - It's gettin there :D
Like stupid hats, even if I don't wear one - YES. I want to rock a hat like Zender's.
Talk in terms of groove - Mhmm.

None. Stereotypes are pretty stupid by defenition.

Do you mean that fitting a stereotype is stupid and that everyone should shave, lose weight, dumb down their theory, etc. to avoid fitting the stereotype? That seems kinda dumb and reactionary.

Or do you mean that believing that stereotypes exist is stupid? They do, it's a fact. Not that everyone fits a stereotype (impossible) but they do in fact exist. They are a type of "generalization," which again is not to say that everyone within a group fits all the criteria of the generalization, but that these characteristics make up the "norm" or average of the group. I think there's enough evidence here in this post to strongly indicate some average, norm, generalized or stereotypical characteristics!!

Another couple that I saw in a different thread were:
- an interest in soccer, especially playing goalie
- a tendency to pick sniper as a chacter type in first person shooter video games

...both of which I am guilty of!

10.i almost always have the goofiest song ideas

I'm not batting a thousand, but I'm hitting the marks pretty respectably:
Slightly fattish (is that a word?)
Goatee
"Bass face"
Theory geek (but not the best or only one in the band!)
Gear geek AND snob (as if either weren't enough)
Band producer/engineer
Web guy
Design guy
Day job (but that's all of us in the band)

BUT...
Not tall. 5'9"
Never slap. EVER.
No hat. But I am balding!
Extrovert, on- and off-stage
Smallish car

Bass Face - Check
Standing Completely Still at a gig in hopes to disappear - Check
A couple extra pounds - check
Singing eventhough I shouldn't - check
Siding with the drummer - (I can't side with the guitarist, I'm married to him & then that becomes the downfall of bands) - check
Haul all my gear plus some of theirs - Check

Um, let's see, as I'm just learning so far-
goatee, long hair - the army won't let me

Gear knowledge/setup - I was a sound

tech at my church, so I know a little bit

Music theory - took a class in hs, before learning bass

Funny hat- I was famous in high school for my long hair (shoulder length, even the bangs), my army boonie hat, bdu pants and jungle boots. Now I just wear a ball cap and blue jeans, and sneakers.

Glasses - prescription, but when I wear contacts, I love my Oakleys.

Um, even practicing, I tend to either stand dead still, or start movin' and groovin'.

Alway been introverted, so I don't do social functions real well, try to blend in.

I find it interesting that I had all of these traits BEFORE I picked up bass, and I am comfortable with fitting the stereotype.

Oh, and I'm rather scrawny- 5'10" and 140 pounds.:rollno:

Don't think I really fit the bill...

I don't wear hats because I have a beautiful head of hair.
I can't grow facial hair.
I've got a few extra pounds on me, but that's just because I love cheeseburgers. I'm sure if I played synths, I'd love cheeseburgers too...
Bass face? I've been told that I just look really mad all of the time... I'm more than likely just concentrating.
And you can rarely see the bass face because I'm usually facing the drummer, intimidating him into not screwing up.
I play with a pick, I play by ear, and I'm more of a fan of laying back and laying down a heavy, sludgy, punch in the mouth rather than wanking and dancing up and down fretboard.
I also hate jazz... I appreciate it... but I don't like to listen to it. Just not my scene... I've been told that's really bizzare for a bass player...

I'm guilty of the little list above.....not sure about the 'blacking out during ballad' one though....does blacking out during a practice session count?
