Big E speakers: Pt 2

on both of my electrics I had to fine tune pickup and string height. Any small anomalies in setup seem very apparent. But when you lock things in----

I think this is true for any well designed cab. The more faithful your cabs representation, the more your signal chain matters. All of that starts with the player of course, but can be greatly effected by the set up on the insturment.

String/pickup height and intonation matter so much more when you can actually hear/tell the difference. :D

True--but more true with some speakers.

My point was that with these speakers the effect is more pronounced.

You're right--every time you improve one item in the signal chain it can show deficiencies in the other components.

Hey man--next time you're in Chicago you should stop over. Weird speakers and the best pancake place around! Ask Duke!

I have really been meaning to get to Chi for a while now. Work has not given me a lot of options for time off though. When I do I will drop you a line. I really want to check out some basses when I am there as well.

All I can say is that I have owned or played every high end
cab I could get my hands on over the last 3 decades and
there is something different here. I am a mastering engineer
by day and a working player live and in the studio. My mains
and say the Augsburger mains of a high end room in town
don't sound like my bass cab....
The thing that intrigues me is that nuances seem subtly
holographic in presentation...
Notes kinda hand in the air around the room....
The effect is subtle but interesting!
I have a RnB club gig tonight san PA support then an outdoor
gig Saturday with big PA so I will get some data and let y'all
know.

Here is the speaker porn you seek........
I really love the Ciare tweets in this cab! Vicious for funk.

Oh man nomatic, you are killing me. Ive put in an order for a 45 and can't wait to hear these amazing 5" based cabs, I love my 46 and think this will be a great step in the right direction for me. I'm also very interested in his Frankenstein designed 10" cab with a ton of switches and stuff. I think I'll have to stop in chicago sometime to geek out with mike in person, just awesome stuff!

For sure, I would love to get my hands on the 210 model!

The Big-E 85 did great last night on a RnB gig with no P.A.
support I must say...
The dispersion characteristics of this design were obvious to the other folks in the band especially the drummer who was all the way across the stage and he still heard me very well. Note definition is super clear without the feeling you need to crank to hear yourself. The Bass is always a problem in this club as the owner walks around with a DB meter! Last night I felt the whole stage volume was lower there was less standing wave in bass. This is a different animal to be sure...
Great work Mike!

Excellent!

Yeah---at first I was wondering if I was nuts with these cabs---because they present the sound in such a different way. It's great to hear so many guys that I respect that are finding the same results.

The first production MAS 110 & 210 Flex cabs will be done in about ten days.

It's pretty neat---the MAS 85 and the 110 go about the same volume and are priced the same but they are totally different animals.

The 85 is elegant (in a similar way with the Monique) and the 110 is a bit more "take no prisoners"

I'd say a single super 15 or a conventional 410. 3rd Curve says that the 85 is bested by a very small degree by the Berg 212. Which I'm happy with. I didn't expect it to come that close to a 212.

The 110 goes just a tiny bit louder than the 85. Stronger low end though.
