I'll just leave this thought out there regarding the Dave Grohl meme...

I agree wholeheartedly with Dave on principle, but the fact is that people don't "make it" the same way they used to. People want to blame file sharing, iTunes, the internet, Youtube, etc. for the decline of the music industry and all, but companies just don't want to take as many risks. It could be economics, but either way people need different routes to start breaking in as a musician. What Dave's quote and American Idol isn't divulging to you is that image is absolutely pivotal. Now that's not to say every band is fronted by a heartthrob, but if they can't "sell" a band visually it's very tough for a label to take them on unless they are insanely talented. Problem is, even insanely talented people don't always "sell" with the general public. If you want to be a backing musician, you can find work that way out of pure talent, but sometimes that isn't enough.

I remember reading an anecdote on here about a Lenny Kravitz audition. They had lines of people waiting to audition and one of the reps came out and said that anyone with more than a 4-string bass can just go home...don't even get to try out. Sadly that's the way it is sometimes, the pretty ones get more breaks than the raw talent, or people that fit the image they are going for.

They were just really out of tune. A bit more practice and that would have sounded like any other middle school performance. Though at 2:30 I couldn't help but laugh, the look on the female guitarist's face said "man, he's so good..."

OP here again. I DO agree that it can take guts to go on a stage and perform in front of an audience!

I still think what they do sounds like shite. Their bravado or age is not the point (or even relevant!).
I have not "condemned" anyone, but musicians that grow up to be really good as adults, are generally much better than these kids, when they are in this age. It was just my observation. No reason to get upset! I do not know them, I have not insulted them or have no intention to ever contact them!

Peace, guys. And listen to the great kids playing Metallica instead!
