Boss SY-1 Synth

@Cunkybunkfarts - good post, thanks.

Q from me: HX Stomp doesn't have poly capability and struggles to match something like the Digitech Mosaic for poly octave up. Wondering if the SY-1 will be able to cover this off?

In what capacity? If you look at the sy1 sound list on the boss website no sound is a straight octave up... from the guitar demos it looks like it tracks poly pretty damn well?

Still no decent bass reviews done yet! There's a very short 15 second bass clip on the Boss website, and the Pedals and Effects boys spent 95% of their review demonstrating on guitar and the 5% bass review was done on two Boss SY-1s.

The complete lack of full blown bass reviews is a little surprising and possibly concerning(?) given this has been pitched as equally relevant to bass and guitar by Boss.

I am super excited about this pedal and looking to get it in place of the SA C4 - not needing to deep dive into PC editing on yet another pedal is hugely welcome so I can get on with actually playing my bass :D.

My key concern is that tracking is harder on bass than guitar and how well is this pedal gonna cope with the low end? Currently I have no real idea...

Another good reason to wait, and not preorder this thing.

It definitely is not out yet. Only a few review copies have made it out. Also looking forward to some bass demos. Supposedly the SY series doesn't track in the traditional sense.

Man, I saw someone post a pic of their board with one on it too. He must know somebody.

Edit: He’s in the UK. He got one from a shop over there.

Ok cool, thanks for the heads up. There is a PMT store not too far from me, I'll see if they have one in!

Update: PMT UK don't have any in stock, but hoping to get in the next couple of weeks.

Some point out the lack of deep parameters and editing, but as as a competitor to similar pedals on the market, or well I guess that would actually exclusively be the EHX's 9 pedals and their newer mono synth and bass mono synth, to my knowledge at least, it is quite serious I'd say.

Way more features than any of those pedals, and unlike the mono synths it is polyphonic, and it tracks bass perfectly well all the way down unlike the 9 series.

And even though it might not be capable of producing every sound those different EHX pedals are capable of a lot of it's setting get is in the ballpark of some of those, plus it can do wild stuff such as sequenced arpeggios and sound effects non of those can.

Not everyone need to be able to tailor their synth sounds in detail, I know I would be extremely happy with this pedal at least, and for those who does there are other far more expensive solutions on the market for that.

In my opinion for what it is it in no less than an amazing pedal that is really well thought through, and even comes at a quite reasonable price compared to what it do and the quality of the sounds it is capable of.

I got a couple of other music gear related things that I need more than this pedal, so I will need to get those before I buy the SY-1, but it is definitely in the higher priority end of my GAS list.

I honestly didn't see this coming from Boss, but it is definitely a really nice surprise.
