Well... I thought those GZP-2 diagrams solved my problems. BUT... they don't show it with the switch that my OBJ-6 has (which is the trans orange spalted one that Afc70 posted on the previous page). Is this a Series/Parallel switch that puts each pickup's dual coils both in series or parallel? Or is it a Coil Tap switch that puts both pickups in either dual coil or single coil mode?

This is making me feel really stupid for not being able to figure out on my own! I didn't realize that soldering of the IDC connectors was a factory thing. I should've left well-enough alone! These pickups and pre are a great combination. The punch, clarity, and overall tone is so amazing, that I'm surprised to hear of so many people swapping the p/ups and pres out!

The bossa switch functions a bit differently. When the balance control is at one extreme of its travel and the switch is flipped, it activates the two most outer coils of both pickups.

When the balance control is at its other extreme and the switch is flipped, the two innermost coils of both pickups are active.

The coils are in parallel.

Thanks for that great post. I am not a Bossa owner yet, but there is a Bossa available here in Chicago right now and I am scheming to get my mitts on it.

When I think of Bossa basses I think of Baba Elefante. I played a couple of gigs with drummer David Jennings here in Chicago a long time ago and I had a copy of Toxic Jazz with David, Baba, and guitarist David Murdy (I think).

Do you know if the balance/accessibility issue you mentioned was solved? I assume so, but I would like to see what happened.

Just an FYI for this club, I decided to sell my OBJ-6 with orange finish over spalted top. The preamp wiring discussed earlier in this thread is complete and is an improvement over what a previous owner had done when installing a new bridge pickup. This bass made me a HUGE fan of Bossa basses. The feel is phenomenal. The tone is crystal clear. The quality is high-end. BUT I just don't pick it up as much as my other 6. This needs love!

Ask him if he can record a sound demo for you but japan made bossa are rare and sought after because of the quality, and the tonal options you can get with the original preamps and I can guarantee you the aguilar doesn't do that my boy put a aguilar obp3 in a bossa 5 string cause stock preamp went out bass sounded nothing like it used to lost all tonal options
