In my liquor cabinet, I have elijah craig (regular and a bunch of the single barrels), eagle rare, makers & makers barrel proof, and I have a few pappy's, and some blantons. I do enjoy bookers and woodford reserver but don't have a bottle of either at the moment. So much good stuff out there. No reason to chase hype.

I've been interested in the Booker's for years, and I've heard good things about Eagle Rare.

Eagle Rare. Yes...wonderful, and a great value.

Booker's. Even more wonderful due to that crazy proof; the flavors just sizzle. And not a bad value due to the proof level (you don't need much of a dram to set you buzzing).

Eagle Rare
Bookers
Buffalo Trace
Pappy
Blanton's

Out of those six I’d only buy the following:
EC
ER
BT
Pappy

I've gone through a bottle of every bourbon on that list.

• PVWinkle is all but impossible to find, and in the off chance that you do come across a bottle, the price is insane (over $500/bottle). It shouldn't be on that list.
• Blanton's is excellent, but can't be found either. If I knew this would happen, I'd have bought a case when it was easy to get.
• Eagle Rare is great, but I feel Buffalo Trace is on the path to making this a no-age-statement bourbon. Much like Heaven Hill did with Elijah Craig 12. And if that happens, it will be a bad thing.
• The no age statement Elijah Craig is awful. Such a shame, as the EC 12year it replaced was excellent.
• Basil Hayden's is, to my taste, a pretty lightweight bourbon. I'd put it on a list of "beginner bourbons".
• Booker's is awesome, but it was more awesome when it was $20/bottle cheaper last year.
• Knob Creek, Makers Mark, Buffalo Trace and Woodford's Reserve are all decent, but nothing special IMO.

I'd replace the last 4 with the following: Knob Creek Single Barrel (9yo, 120proof and, best of all - $44/bottle), Noah's Mill, Rowan's Creek, and Henry McKenna's 10year.

I'm a Crown Royal fan myself. Picked that one up from my Grandpa. He was from South Central IL. I'm guessing the penchant from Crown is from times of prohibition. No one ever told me that outright, but the timing fits. Grandpa would always serve Crown to guests if they asked for neat, rocks or water. If you came to his house and asked for Crown & Coke, you would get 10-High (well whisky basically) & Coke. So, Crown is a bit of a family tradition I guess, not that that was the question.... As much as I prefer Crown, sometimes (in fact lots of the time) it's not avail at an open bar during cocktail mixers. O buddy of mine from Louisville turned me on to Woodford Reserve.

I have to echo that Blantons is delicious and definitely holds its own against many of the mega-hyped bourbons (suffering from some hype itself). If I am looking I have been able to find bottles here every couple of months so it is attainable but you couldn't have it as your daily drinker.

My favorite bourbon though is likely EH Taylor Small Batch. Right around $50 a bottle around here, moderately easy to find and tastes great.

Went to a really good restaurant last night in Atlanta called The Wrecking Bar. They had a great whiskey selection with really good prices too. In order we had:
Van Winkle 10 year
Eagle Rare 17 year
Old Fitzgerald BIB 9 year
Knob Creek 2001 Limited Edition

I’ve had the 11 year old Eagle Rare before and it was nice, but that BTAC Eagle Rare was awesome! I’d also had the Van Winkle 10 before too but this time around I found it a little too smooth.

A few weeks ago while working in Cleveland a vendor of mine handed me a bottle of Blanton's. Somehow we got on the subject of Weller Antique. I lemmented not being able to find either for sale at home for years. He said meet me at my truck and then proceeded to hand me a bottle of Weller Antique. Nice little score for me.

That red Antique is my go to. Love the spice on it. Nice hook up!

Colonel Taylor.
Old Fitzgerald.
New Riff. Not the best out there, but with the musical angle in the name, it seemed appropriate to mention. They are also a fairly new distillery, so you can get on board with them early.

Though not strictly BIB, I discovered Heaven Hill Green Label 6 year @ 45% last time I was in Kentucky. Crazy good value for the bourbon you're getting.
