Bourbon...

A buddy was just recently at the Knob Creek distillery. He hand-filled this for me, and even had the bottle etched for my bar. It's his fingerprint in the wax seal as well. Such a cool gift.

That's really special bro. Great gift.
When I toured Maker's Mark, they let us dip a bottle in the red wax and write a personal note on the side label.

I've yet to try a "wheated" bourbon.
Seeing as you've got a proverbial stockpile of it, can you offer some insight as to what it does to the flavor profile compared to that of a traditional bourbon?

Give Makers Mark a try. That should give you a low cost entry into wheated bourbon.
While Weller claims to be the original wheated bourbon, there is some controversy around that claim. It is good bourbon if you like wheaters though.

MM use to be a go-to bourbon of mine. Although truth be told, it's been a few years since I've last had it.
I remember it being somewhat full/robust, flavor wise. Sounds like I need to revisit that one.

whoa...this just freaked me out. I recently turned a gluten free friend onto maker's and seeing this stopped me in my tracks.

whew::: Googling shows me that although wheat is in the mix (at 16%) it is still considered gluten free.

Also after reading a write up in a magazine about this stuff from Charleston SC, I gave it a shot too. It’s just “ok” for me.
Nose was better than the taste with some wood and banana.

Palate was a little too much for me, maybe too much going on?

Finish was not too short and did have some charred oak with a few spices.

Uniqueness was nothing that I’d write home about. I was hoping all the rage about the red corn would be something more than it was.

Value was way overpriced. Maybe at a much lower price point than $80 it could be something nice for a change.
