moretolife, I have two fretless B2's, a 4 string and a 5 string. Both of mine have the humbuckers on them as I only use the neck placement pick-up so the single coils would make noise. I love the single coil fretless sound, but I would rather have a quieter bass then a bass that buzzes and makes me stand in weird positions to get rid of the single coil buzz. Since I would only be using one pick-up it would always be a challenge.

I also have the hard as nails finish on the fingerboards as that helps the growl and saves the wood, as I use round wound strings on my fretless basses.

Both of my fretless basses have the piezo pick-up option as they really shine on a fretless. You can get almost an acoustic bass sound with them using them alone, and if you blend them with the mags just right it increases the bottom, thump, and the sustain.

Other then the hard as nails option my basses are bone stock. Carvin has so many wood, hardware, and finish options it's truly like being a kid in a candy store, so have fun trying to decide!!

Those are just a few thoughts as to what I use, but it's all about what you want and what you feel would be best suited for your needs. I love my fretless B2's a lot. If you want to hear them I used them quite a bit on my 'Bromberg Plays Hendrix' CD. Not trying to do a sales pitch but you can really hear the 4 and 5 string versions of the fretless basses.

Thanks for asking and good luck with your bass. Please let me know what you decide and if you choose to get one please take pics so I can post them on the Carvin B2 Bass Facebook page. thanks...........B2

The humbuckers sounded better to me with the Icon pre-amp, so that is the pre-amp with the humbuckers. There is no question that the B2 pre-amp sounds fantastic with the single coils and truly has the mojo, but if you use only one pick-up it is almost impossible to get away from the noise and buzz from the single coils, even thought I love the sound!

In a controlled environment like a studio you can position yourself to get rid of the single coil buzz, but on stage it is another factor completely!

Nice looking walnut top B25 on Carvin in-stock page

Brian- It looks from the B2 bass page on Facebook that you had taken the Walnut topped in-stock B25 home for a while. Any comments on the sound of it and/or what you didn't like about it if anything? I think it is super sweet looking. Thanks in Advance -Will

Please pardon if this has been asked before but how does the body size compare to something like a Rickenbacker 4003 or Fender Jazz? I've been spending time at the Carvin site watching Brian's demo and reading up on the options and do thinking I'm beginning to lust a little. Fantastic playing by the way Brian, very nice and informative video.

Yes I had that bass for a bit, sounds great and looks lovely. One thing I do with Carvin is have them send me different basses from time to check out and explore. I wanted to see the natural walnut, it's really very nice. But, after seeing it I realized that in my world with traveling and my basses in and out of cars, cases, planes, trucks, and my studio with the amount of traffic there I felt I would be better off with a harder finish then natural oiled wood as I would be sick if it got banged up. If I have a bass these days I want to play it, not just look at it, and that bass is to nice to just keep in a case until I needed it............

Who knows, I might take it back unless it sells? If it sells whoever buys it will love it I'm sure!
