Brian Bromberg Carvin Model Part 2

Yo vibhas_2310, I have ebony and maple boards as of now, but I am planning on getting a rosewood board bass as well. My first electric bass was a Jazz Bass with a rosewood board so I would love have another one. I have mainly used ebony because of my upright bass roots. It's really strong, smooth and hard, and the black board looks so good with black hardware!!

I think I will have a 5 string made with a rosewood board and and I'm sure it will be great!

After comparing my Active/Passive preamp to 2 different B24/25's, it is clearly different. It seems to be lacking the board that appears to be related to the master volume pot.

Here is a new one (thanks Bob!), which also matches the 'prototype' bass in the Hollywood store (no 'BB' logo at the 12th fret.

I called Carvin today and asked about it. The word from the factory is that the pre in my bass is correct for when it was built. So I guess at one point there was an active/passive preamp in the design process (Brian, can you confirm?).

I find it odd that my bass has the BB logo, but an apparently old preamp, while the what-I-assume-is-an-earlier-model 'prototype' bass has the current, all-active preamp, but no BB logo. None of this was mentioned at the time of purchase at the store.

Carvin is unwilling to make the bass current (despite still being under warranty), so if I want the final, released, to-Brian's-spec version of the bass/preamp, I will need to buy it and pay to have it installed. So I guess I don't really have a B25P at all.

Not quite sure how I feel about all this, but overwhelming happiness wouldn't be an accurate description.

Bummer! My guess is they just put the wrong preamp (probably SB5000) and won't admit it. But that's not a bad preamp, and active/passive selection is a good option.

You could sell the bass here and get another...

I don't think it's an SB, unless it's the one with mid-sweep and blend. I think it is the same as the BB and others that have individual string volume control. But i don;t know and they aren't saying.

Either way, I feel a little deceived and dismissed. Especially considering that I've bought 3 brand-new basses from them in the last 4-5 months. But man, they are just great basses.

Yes, unless they sold it to you designated as a prototype or development model, Carvin should make it right, no charge.

There is someone on here who presumably has the clout to make it happen. :)

Tell Carvin to cut the crap...this is a Bromberg bass and should have a Bromberg preamp installed....no less. Buy a Corvette, one expects a vette engine installed and not a standard corporate engine.

But, if you like the way it sounds...let it be. But I'd make it a point to tell the Mark Kiesel directly about this situation...see what he thinks. Don't get Brian involved...get the owner of Carvin involved.

I like the bass how it is, but it is not as designed. Ideally I would want it that way.

PM me Mr. Kiesel's contact info if you have it and I would be happy to discuss this and a couple of other things with him.

Don't anyone get me wrong, I still love my Carvins (all 4 of them), and they aren't going anywhere, especially this one!
