Bruno Mars band kicked SB butt.

I thought that Bruno Mars and his band gave one of the best Super Bowl performances in years.

On the other hand,RHCP would have been better off in the Radio Shack commercial,
"The 80’s called and want their store back."

They looked dated. They need to reinvent themselves.

WGAS? Apparently some here think its akin to milli vanilli in that those guys on stage are just actors that didn't/couldn't record those tracks in preparation for the show.

Which would be a silly position to take. And yet...
:)

Didja hear...? Flea wasn't plugged in last night. That means it was all a lie!
:(

If you're not a performing musician I guess you might not have a clue about logistics. Yet I know non-musicians who clearly understand why decisions like that are made.

Wow...... some people may need to research the chilli peppers more and realize they haven't stood still since blood sugar sex magic. I mean.... I know some people stopped paying attention to music when Cobain died....but jeeze ...!

I mean come on.... the album "I'm with you" is from 2011 and debuted at number 2 in the states.
I don't get why they went with that song, unless the TV folks demanded it. They should have at least picked Dani Calfornia, that was a much more recent hit. I don't know that any individual song off of I'm With You was big enough for the SB.

I dunno. My first clue that something was fishy was when I saw Will Ferrel behind the drum kit.

Count me in the meh group. The style and energy was nice, but musically Bruno can't hold a candle to James Brown, E,W,& F, Sting, and other influences he tries to draw from.

They'll be saying that in 20 years about whatever new act comes along who does the "Bruno Mars" thing. The kids are alright man.

And I'd rather watch him than Sting and his copious amounts of "lite" rock any day.

Be thankful that there are guys like Bruno Mars and others out there who actually play instruments and try to bring it as opposed to just being celebrities like so many other pop stars. Given what the halftime show is (and has been in the past), it's hard to imagine it much better than that.

My favorite idea for a commercially feasible Super bowl halftime: Jimmy Fallon and the Roots doing musical parodies with random celebrity guests. But they're on another network, so that's probably not gonna happen.:atoz:

Pre-recorded or not, Bruno Mars is a hell of a performer. Is he drawing heavily from James Brown, Temptations, etc.? Yes. So what! He performs with and energy and style that is highly entertaining, and is a nice change from the pop diva doing vocal acrobatics. The more I see him, the more I dig what he's doing.

RHCP - Meh.

From a show production stand-point, using pre-recorded material significantly reduces the chance of things going wrong. RHCP are notorious for their sloppy live shows. This isn't a risk worth taking for this kind of a situation. Remember, this is a football game half-time show, not a concert.
