Skip the bass and use that money to go on a really wonderful trip. European travel is very cheap right now and likely to get cheaper. I just bought round trip airfare to Europe for less than $600 per person. Is another bass going to bring you more joy than memories that will last the rest of your life?

For between 500-700 you can get a Schecter CV4.....the best way to describe it is a cross between a Jazz bass and a passive version of a G&L L2000......its a fun little bass with a lot of great features and still leave you plenty leftover if you decide on a trip :)

I don’t need to spend it all but I have been thinking it would be fun to get a bass that I don’t have or necessarily need but something kinda cool.

So hit me up. What should I get for No Reason?

And if y’all don’t give me any great ideas I’ll just get a Kenny Wayne Shepherd Stratocaster, bound and blocked, looks like a Jazz bass sort of. So technically it’s up to you to maintain the bass/guitar universal balance.

209 10th Avenue South, a few blocks away from the above. THIS latter-day Gibson (even though they still aren't my thing for basses) is So much better, I really have to admit it's a far different and far better brand than the bad old days when I and so many others worked there.

. . . . and probably the best place to see serious new acoustic axes, the newly re-invigorated Cotten Music, long a Nashville standout, partnered with investment money from London, now The North American Guitar:

And my favorite local music store, the always-terrific Corner Music, relocated out to the edge of East Nashville:

Hot chicken? Hot chicken? Eeeesh, you're on your own. I'd rather pressure-test my GI tract some other way.

If I understand you're an Austin resident, Nashville is following a very similar arc. From the dollar-a-Shiner Armadillo Hdqtrs days to now, you know how things exploded, and Nashville is on a similar arc, though ours started later. I came here in 1990, and the 90's were the last of the 'old' Nashville. Today . . . . it is a far different place.

I played one of these while I was looking for my first upright. It came down to this or the Kay M-1 I ended up going with. Still miss that one though...
