Can we please stop using "guitard"?

Sure, there will come a day in the future when no one will have ever heard an intellectually disabled person referred to as being "********". At that time, the term will no longer be associated with actual intellectually disabled people....and therefore, will not be hurtful. We can say "you're a *etard" all we want with impunity. For instance when someone modifies their all-original 1964 P bass.

Blackhawk is not a racially insulting term like Redskin is. And I'm not even going to address the ridiculousness of dirt vs clean. The disingenuousness is thick in this thread!

The word "clean" cannot take offense but people can.

Yes, especially if they don't bathe. If I say I am offended at the smell, is the smelly person allowed to be offended at my being offended because that person stinks?? Maybe it is because they have some chemical imbalance that causes them to stink. Doesn't matter, they still stink and I am offended. WAAAAHHH!

So if I'm walking down a city street and hear someone berate a person of color with vile, racists remarks my natural reaction should be to approach the person of color and explain to them all of the ways that THEY shouldn't have a problem with it and how the onus is on THEM to move on and ignore that filth?? With all due respect that is a totally outdated mentality and society has evolved from it. It's 2015 and that stuff doesn't play any more.

No. That's not what I implied exactly. I said you teach people. Thats a long process that hopefully begins in childhood and over time upon reflection of various life events instills a sense of immunity from it.

You cant just try to intervene in one instance and hope to convey the revelation to them that they can't be hurt if they chose not to be.

Besides, human nature being what it is, trying to convince a person that they are wrong to do something only reinforces their desire to do it more.
