I don't think that placing the controls above the strings is an improvement, the hand falls naturally to the conventional lower place.

Design is partly a matter of taste of course; to me this looks like it would be played by someone in The Jetsons. :)

I bought one of his bass years ago. It was literally a piece of crap when it arrived. The heel of neck was not a right fit for the pocket, it was over hanging by like 2mm. It felt as he just threw two parts together without any care. The neck was wavey with fret buzz all over the place, glad I found a local lutheir who was able to fill down the frets to compensate the dips and bumps. There were also tons of dents on the body that were not mentioned in the ad, even though it was advertised as brand new. As a bonus, dealing with him was close to impossible as well, very defensive and arrogant. It was not a pleasant experience for me.

The part you aren't seeing, though, is all the messes we cleaned up. We had quite an interesting run here with him.....And anybody who conducts themselves like he did/does, will never get a penny from me.

As to this design, I find it very "meh". But at least he's moved past selling parts basses with Fender decals on the head stocks (yes, he was doing that also).

My initial reaction was that I hated the looks, then it kinda warmed on me to the point that if it's under $1500 I'd pledge. But then I saw the $2500 price and bailed. You really need to put some more polish on the prototype to get $2500. Plus part of the campaign is to give away five basses. I really don't want to fund Rascal Flatts bass, and I like Rascal Flatts. 8.7lbs really isn't lightweight either. But I definitely wish him good luck.

He was indeed temp banned from TB. Maybe he forgot or didn't notice while he was busy making basses better than Fender does while putting their logo on his headstocks, but it happened.

This is gonna get interesting I see. If the popcorn emoticon wasn't getting as cliche as it seems to me, I'd post that here in place of these 2 sentences.

I love Talkbass. The mods here post things that would have the mods ban me on another forum I belong to :). Been banned there, by a guy who's also a Talkbass member . We have better rules here though than they have there.

Here's the PM in question from David Certain. There were several but this is the one I reported. It all started with me asking for some clarification on something he said in the thread. I wasn't being hostile or anything but he must have taken it that way. He chose not to answer in the thread but instead by PM.


well, i know you guys buy a lot of basses, but i like selling to those who actually play them. the average TalkBass pos(t)er and "supporting member" will have extensive lists of gear, but i never see anyone notable they've played with. never. at least the pos(t)ers on the certainbass threads. i asked them to post some audio, video or just a bio, and nothing. why? because there is nothing. emperors with no clothes. myself as well as most of the posters on the thread said "hey, don't you guys know you're naked?"

this is a bio that screams "i'm a nobody". totally un-Google-able. you are obviously not qualified to have an informed opinion on anything bass. you certainly haven't the background to have a valid opinion about me.

my ONLY problem is to figure out how we're going to make all these basses especially in light of my touring schedule. everytime there's a talkbass thread, the orders go crazy. i've been sitting all day, and all weekend, writing quotes. that's why i can be on the computer to monitor the next BS that will come upon the thread.

put all the energy into it you want: you can't touch me, you can't hurt me. you guys are like swatting flies. and totally irrelevant to the greater scheme of things.

get a life. go to New York, see what you're made of. ya' scared? you should be. your career is on TalkBass.

It costs $850 to have your own design drawn up in CAD and CNC programmed by a respected OEM supplier.

I'm struggling to understand why he thinks he needs $24,500 to bring to market an instrument that is a slimmed-down Jazz bass with a sawn-off headstock.

OEMs like Precision have access to premium woods, so it's not like he needs to accumulate any inventory at all.

If he's successful enough, there will be plenty of time for him to scale-up to compete with the likes of G&L and Rickenbacker.
