A bit late reporting on that one! It went well, we had a good turnout, my parents even made it in, and I had a tasty shrimp po'boy for half price! We're breaking in a new lead guitarist, so there were a few rough spots due to that, but overall he did OK.
After that, my country band gigged at the Leesburg Moose last Friday, where they have Smithwicks on draft (:hyper:). We had a sub guitarist, because the regular guitarist got a new job & he can't play Fridays. :rolleyes: This is only tolerated because he happens to be the bandleader's son. Also, the bandleader lets his son (by far the youngest and strongest guy in the band) go home early, because he lives far away. So he gets to skip the loadout. I guess that will be a permanent thing, we never play anywhere near his home. More schlep work for us old guys, it just ain't fair I tell ya!

Then last night, it was my brother and me again, at a new (to us)place called Dad's Pub in Rockville. Kind of a weird vibe in there, but we rocked out anyway, a lot of our friends came out, and the boss wants us back. One funny thing: the stage is a good size for a duo or trio, but we are a 6-piece! So we spend 90 minutes cramming ourselves up there, and then the owner shows up and says "a lot of the bands set up over there", pointing over to the end of the room, where the logical spot for the stage would be! :rollno: NOW you tell us!! (Why do they almost NEVER put the stage in the logical spot???) So I played the night with my butt against the front of the keyboard, my left foot hanging off the edge of the stage, and raising the neck every time somebody went to & from the bathroom. Kinda curtailed my boogie a little bit... but I did get a good look at every woman in the place at one time or another...:D Silver lining!

Next gig: with my Grateful Dead cover band On The Bus, Saturday 1/30, out in Hagerstown MD at the Hempen Hill BBQ.

Okay people the show Sat night was amazing we had a packed house and we rocked the place the new Bose PA kick serious back side here is a pix from the gig

Clubdate on Saturday.
Unfortunately for me, it will be my last gig for a long time. I go under the knife next Friday for a biopsy and to put a rod in my upper right arm to reinforce the bone where a tumor has been growing. And oddly enough, this may be unrelated to the problem I had a few weeks back regarding the arm. I have all the mobility I need to play at my self imposed high level: I am told not to lift anything heavier than a teacup or I run the risk of breaking my right arm. Don't worry, my son will be my roadie, I'll just play

I have a fun gig tonight - both of my bands will be playing at a benefit for Doctors Without Borders. Small local bar, good people, lotta friends. Folk in A will open the show (I play melodic fretless accompaniment with a singer-songwriter) and then funk with Funkranomicon. I'm gonna give myself musical whiplash from the abrupt style shift :D

Great night - both bands played really well, audience loved it, and we raised over $700 (all by donation) for Doctors without Borders. Hard to beat that.

This show was sold out early in the week, and in spite of the snow, there were only 2 cancellations. Great place with excellent ribs, friendly & attentive staff, diverse selection of beer, some interesting mixed drinks & shots as well. They have a drink called the Grateful Dead! Gotta love that! The staff all had tie-dyed shirts that were made just for our appearance.

We played pretty well, and the crowd was rockin'! Lot of younger people, which is always encouraging. We got down to the end of our setlist, and the boss gave us more $$ to keep going! That's encouraging, too! We weren't ready for that, had to have a bit of discussion about what to play next, but the crowd was tolerant of it.

They run a variety of types of music, usually no cover charge. I wish they'd open one in Frederick! We're back there again in April. I'm looking forward to it!

Next gig: next Saturday, 2/6, a Haiti quake relief benefit at the Dish Bistro in Sandy Spring MD, a town where I went to elementary school long ago. I'm playing with this band and also with my brother, both guitarists are playing with 2 bands, keyboard man has 3. He wins the MVP!

My Band has a gig at a place called the Orange Lantern. Very small stage they have a in house PA but, we will be bringing our Bose system instead. Played here before tight, tight set up so this maybe the last time.Major hassle with a 5 member band and one of the rules is no equipment on the floor so it leaves very little room for the band as you could guess. Now they are talking snow storm Friday night into Sat not sure if the gig will get canceled so far still on

My band's got our first gig of the year coming up on the 13th. Should be a great show. We played there on Halloween and had a blast. Great turn out (150+ people). We'll be debuting a couple of new songs, and we've practically doubled the length of our set since October. Also, since it's an Anti-Valentine's day bash, there should be plenty of fodder for the CAS thread. :hyper:

...or not. The coming snowstorm has everyone scared out of their socks. Prediction is 1 to 2 feet of snow. The benefit, along with every other event around, has been postponed. On a related note, I went to Home Depot today and they are selling snow shovels with clear plastic blades! Never saw that before...

Next gig (I hope): Saturday 2/20, On The Bus at the Strasburg Theater in Strasburg VA, 9 pm. That's on 81 below Winchester, just south of the 66 interchange.
