"Check In" here before and after your gigs this weekend!

Great gig Friday night.......a new club for us, The Roadworthy. Beautiful, all new, log cabin kind of building. We had a good crowd that was really appreciative of the band and the music. I'm sure we'll be back. You can check out their site at Link Removed . (No connection or endorsement here, just a club we enjoyed, and the folks were really cool to us. And a bonus for us, at least at the time of this posting, they have our recent single on their myspace page!)

On a bass related side note: the room was all bare wood, log cabin style. Not sure what to expect sound wise, but I was REALLY happy with the tone I was getting from my Sadowsky RV5 thru the Sansamp RBI into my Berg IP112/HT112 stack. This was one of the best gigs recently for me as far as tone was concerned, and the whole band was clickin' too!

ok, so we played our regular end of the month gig at a local supper club. The pay's not too high, but we also get all the alcohol we can ingest and a free meal. The gig is two minutes from where we live so no need to bring back up gear. We do a minimum set up. Combo amps, no lights, just basically background music for the bar crowd pre and post dinner. Very low stress, and usually very fun.
Well, this was was one of our best. We don't get too many dancers but this past Friday everyone wanted to dance, so it really made the night extra fun. The owner paid us a bonus for keeping all dancers happy and drinking.

Late after the show the guitarist and myself are packing up. Our drummer/lead vocalist is on the other end of the bar speaking to two couples. His back is sore so we cut him a break on haul out.

30 minutes later I look over there and one guy has his hand on the drummer's chest, the other guy is trying to talk down the drummer by saying stuff like, "it's over enough..etc"
So, I go over to back my pal up. Turns out, my drummer is completely smashed on whiskey sours and talking religion. He's an extremely devout catholic. While I respect his beliefs, he can get a little overbearing with it and want to impose his beliefs on others. It gets worse when he's liquored up. Anyway, he's upset because they won't see it his way and wants to fight. Luckily, the situation is diffused and I get him to help pack up some items.
We leave and then I have to hear about how he wanted to fight those guys. We go to my place for a snack and he keeps talking about it. at 2 am I go to bed, my wife stays up with him to almost 4 am so he can sober up enough to drive home.
good guy, talented musician. Boneheard stubborn though!!!

Played our first gig as a band/my first gig in 3.5 years/ our CD release yesterday night. It went great and before i knew it- our setlist was almost done.

Everything fell into place perfectly- Including the delivery of my tort PG the day before the show. We played great.

We sold out of CD's (have 4 left out of the first run) and the place was packed. Definately a huge response from people and my phone's been ringing all through today telling me about how great the show was + that they want to know when we're playing next.

I love it.

Lets see, a drunk Catholic that wants to fight about it, he's not Irish is he? lol

We just had to fire our drummer about a month ago, reminds me a lot of your guy. Alcohol will turn the nicest people into terrors.

We have a Christmas parade and tree lighting ceremony going on right outside our winery gig Friday evening. Our book has like 35 Christmas songs in it, mostly jazz arrangements. I refused to practice more than about 10 of 'em. At least this year we only booked two gigs like this though...

we had our cd release party today, it went alright, pretty much nailed the set, except for the first number, in which our guitarist got a little too excited and decided to take a solo when he shouldn't have, which forced me to come up with an impromptu middle section, which i did, again proving that guitarists NEED US.

Just got back a couple hours ago from a Christmas concert that I played at the local branch of university. Backed up a 3 pc vocal/acoustic group, we added bass, drums and electric to back them. Everything went well, crowd was receptive and appreciative.

On a side note, I took the 12" Walkabout Scout, as the room was a small 250 seat auditorium, with lots of reflective (wood) surfaces and decent FOH support. The Boogie sounded great! I had forgotten just how easy it was to grab the combo, and not run multiple cabs, racks, etc, etc.

The Gig at the Derby went well. We brought about 25 people, but the band that followed us had 86 paid audience members, so we had a nice crowd to play for. I'm finally relaxing a bit on stage and enjoying the moment, instead of cramping up in fear of messing up. I was playing through my Ampeg B-100R, but the signal was also running direct and into the PA....cause I have to compete with two Marshall halfstacks. Anyways, lots of fun and the biggest stage I've played so far.

We are playing tonight at our usual once a month spot, and as The Grizwalds, it will be christmas vacation themed all night long. Should be fun. Tomorrow night we play at The Greens, a local bar/restaurant. First time there for us. Thanks goes out to another band, who were unable to make it, and they suggested us as a fill in. We have been trying to get in there, not that it's anything real fancy, but it's close to home and my work, so I've invited a lot of co-workers. This is the second time we've played 2 nights in a row, 4 hours each night, and I am jazzed.

And (pulling into the home strech) finally Tuesday and Wednesday: Holiday parties. Then I'm off to Ohio for the holidays and I don't work until Saturday before New Years eve

Twice the money, 4 times the hassle, generator of many stories usually none too favorable
